THEN, my headlights started playing games last night...

bit the bullet and ordered a new "genuine LUCAS" one from a suffolk landie parts place at £41-49 delivered..
wont pass judgement or comment till I receive it in post.

gonna be awfully ****ed if its not "genuine"
after I first phoned then to confirm it was LUCAS......

What exactly have you bought?

sorry, my crystal ball thought transference did not work - did it..
ok, its my disco 200 left side of steering columb, lights, indicators & red button flasher unit..
the good news it was marked lucas, in a green box marked lucas,
and with a bearmach stamp

took the old unit off, fitted the new, tried the lights and....
just the same as before

tomorrow will rewire the right side headlight using my "spare" ceramic 3 pin bulb socket, that I had left over from when I wired the left hand side =
should have done both sides at the same time - dohhhhh........:D

never mind, got a spare "working" light switch now,
in a green box marked.........................................

Before you do any of that, have a look at the connectors in the engine bay on the bulkhead. There are (or there were on mine) at least 3 on the air box side of the engine bay. I had issues with lights and all sorts of things on my Disco and it was these connectors causing the problems. I just unplugged them, cleaned them up by scraping them with an old screwdriver and then spraying some WD40 in there. Plugged it all back together and all was good again.

At least you had a relaxing day. I spent all day trying to remove an engine from an X-Type Jaguar. Fecking thing is in there to stay and I have more grazed knuckles that I thought I had knuckles. Some of the bolts were done up by either Superman or God himself and I am still no nearer getting the little ****bag out.

And more lined up for tomorrow.

oh dear, my eldest daughter had an s type, type R..
i looked under the bonnet for some clues on how to service it,
said take it to the jag dealers........lol

cars are no longer built for ease of service, unless they are indian home market models...
no slur, but fact......

few weeks ago I was offered a Laguana, top spec model, 04 plate, still moted & taxed for £150...
the catch was it needed a clutch - driving but slipping bad.....a complete body of at the front I read.....said no thanks.............they scrapped it !!!!

thing is at my age WTF do I want doing a poxy clutch on something not landrover....lol

My Wife had a 04 Scenic 1.4dCi which had all the toys. Was a nice car until the alternator pulley broke which shredded the auxiliary belt which went into the cam belt and then the engine was fooked.

I decided we should break it and luckily all the toys still worked which meant I was able to sell most of the bits that usually fail on everyone elses cars. But when you look into what fails on Renault we were very lucky with all these toys, it seems that Renault are known for ****ty bits just failing for no reason.

I won't buy a Renault again, that is for sure.

The bloke I bought this Jag off was quoted £1300 to do the head gasket so he decided to sell it to me for £200 with a full tank of diesel. It's cost me £50 to find out that the head was cracked and wasn't a head gasket, £50 buying a head that doesn't fit the existing cams, £10 for another full head with cams and then when I decided to change the engine instead, another £250 for a replacement engine. Once I get it fixed (unless I get so ****ed off that I decide to break it) I will have loads of other bits to sell at the end and I will have the nicest car I have ever owned.
