no clutch also

Guys I've got a 1966 series 2a that I picked up as a basket case basicly' Prior owner bought a new clutch then lost interest. Took it apart and found out the clutch he bought was a 9 1/2 and needed a 9 inch so I bought one and started going through all the bags of nuts abd bolts from prior owner taking this apart. In removing the old clutch I noticed it was darn near new .????? So I put the new one I bought into the rover and in hooking up the clutch linkage notices the lever on the bell housing is not horizontal as most pic's I've seen so my slave cyl. will not extend far enough to release the clutch . Can any one tell me if this scaft could have been pulled out and reinstalled in the wrong location ? There is a fine spline on this shaft as seen in the manual and thought it may have been installed wrong. Don't know why any one would remove this but??????. This is the most off the wall chutch release set up I have ever seen . Those of you that have been into this early type know what i'm talking about. those of you who have the later type throw out bearing (your lucky) Any help would be great

Some pics would be helpful but i do know that there is some variation in the length of the slave push rod though I don't know whether its a 2a/3 difference or standard/heavyduty set-up
 
Pic may have shown up . lever is down in the direction of slave cyl movement and rod is up as in chutch in rest position . so slve cyl has to move rod 3/4 inch before it ever hits pressure plt. BUT just noticed I cant depress pressure plate even with a cheater bar on linkage .I am going to pull tranny now . hate trying to finish where someone has leftoff or GIVEN UP

Found the problem. bearing all rusty and froze up in the enclosed throw out bearing unit. parts hunting tomorrow.
