high lift jack mounting point on a pickup?

hi guys have a slight problem and wondering if any of you have ideas?

I want to mount a high lift jack to my 90 truck cab but seem to be struggling for a suitable area , it has to be easy to get to and not stick out as the vehicle has heavy off road and on road use. I also want it solidly mounted so in the event of a crash it dosent go flying , her is what I have thaught of and potential problems

*winch bumper mounted - dosent clear the headlights so would be illegal
*no suitable points on roof?
*too big to fit on the wheel boxes on load bed , I could cut down but ideally need this area as free as possible due to it already having waffle boards there and its used to carry stuff
*rear swingaway carrier mounted - going horizontal it wont clear the lights or let the carrier swing, and vertically it sticks straight up and im not sure that's legal? and would look very stupid as its a truck cab
was thinking of fitting stood up on rock sliders but would stop them working as it sticks out too far

any ideas? pictures or descriptions would be greatly appreciated as I need a jack !
 
Mines mounted on my bonnet, although it's on a disco I'm sure you could suss it out on a defender.
Mines also a 60"
 
turboman -when you say behind the front seats im guessing you mean in the rear tub?

bluebeasty- I was thinking about that but I have no bar or support for the roof? I figured it will leak like hell and damage the roof with no support? did also think outside the tub but figured that after a recent experience I would be likely to rip the entire side off if I get caught up again , as it is ill have to replace my 0/s tub skin

johnlad- I have a similar setup to you exept my waffles are bolted via the bolt for the spare wheel, how have you bolted the hi-lift to them?

Ive used 2 pieces of threaded bar approx 200mm long, passed through the waffle board and locked both sides with 50mm square washers and nuts,
the threaded bar after bolting to the waffle board, has about 100mm stuck out on the inside of the tub and pass'es through the holes on the high lift, then secured with large wing nuts, the bar is m12 I think
 
Standard size hi-lift fits behind the front seats.

do you remove that threaded bar completely if you need to use the waffle boards? will a stud in the boards not damage tyres?
 
Doesn't seem to make too much of a difference on a disco, would be massively lighter than a spare on the bonnet anyway!


It's fitted using the standard mounts that you can buy off the shelf
 
thanks for the pics , ill check if that will work on mine only problem I can see it the defender bonnet is narrow but it seems like the best way so far as id like all my kit to have easy access so im not removing other stuff to get to it

that does look like an excellent bit of kit in complete honesty , not too bad a price ,

personally I might go for the jack on the bonnet with standard hi-lift brackets as with mine there are no benefits to fitting security hinges

very neat and smart looking kit though and I am still severely tempted myself ...
 
i must admit reading threads on here does make me a bit paranoid - i havn't got a puma it's a TD5 - but imagine going to the van and the bonnet's missing

to me they serve a number of purposes - they secure the bonnet - they provide somewhere to put the jack which is accessible and doesn't take any space - and they are stainless - fit and forget

i'm hoping if there are any down sides someone will point them out
 
if your jack is close enough to the bulkhead that will secure the bonnet as they wont be able to lift the bonnet vertical to remove it anyway

for obvious reasons that's also a downside

the kit probably is worth the money depending on the condition of your truck , mine works very hard so paint and panel damage occurs however much I try to avoid it , so for me its standard brackets as I don't mind adding the holes and brackets

i never remove the waffle boards,lol,
i like the look of them on the truck and there useful for anchoring other kit to, such as spare halfshafts, because as you will know, storage is limited in a truckcab
 
ah see my waffle boards are constantly in use due to extreme conditions , so much so that them being secured with a wheel nut is a pain in the arse, all my kit has to be neat,look good , be usefull and easy access ! so securing kit to other kit is something I want to avoid , if it wasent for the height issue it wud be fine on the wheel as if u need the wheel you need the jack anyway ! it looks like ill be going for bonnet mounting unless anyone has any other ideas? thanks guys:eek:

I only do extreme stuff but have locking diffs and front and rear winches and 37" tyres so never needed to use the boards, and there is no difference to unbolting the jack from the bonnet to unbolting it from the waffle board, which are secured with a wing nut not wheel nut
