i recently bought a tidy 5 door freelander 1998 diesel, full history, today i went under the vehicle to find reverse light switch, to my horror i saw the rear prop missing, the vehicle drives well no noise etc, i have found a prop for 30quid, do i buy it and fit it see if any probs or will i destroy the transfer box / diff, !! i would like to think it was taken off as the uj was shot and the owner did not want to spend money, i only intend to drive offroad during visits to moto x tracks nothin serious , can any one help etc , i dont mind spending money but dont want to waste it many thanks gus

if you don't try it you'll never know. Buy it and fit it and only drive it a very short distance. If its knackered a noise will probably be evident. On the plus it should be more economical in 2wd. If you recently bought it from a dealer you could always take it back.

I can't believe that anyone would be so stupid as to buy a used car without even looking underneath.
Sorry, but you deserve what you got.

I don't think so!!!!!!!!!!!! But think yer self lucky mate, you bought a Hippo and yer still driving it, now that's got to be lucky cos there's worse to come.:D:D:D

Ready for the shock!! It's very common on freelanders to remove the rear prop. It's done because the viscouse bit is shagged. So not only do you need another shaft you also want the viscouse drive. Get ready to hit the hundreds mark with your plastic. Oh and **** happens :)
