Confused fitting suspension

Nope. You have all you need.

OK top put domed washer on then a bush with the flat to the domed washer and the taper facing the mounting hole then another bush with the taper to the mounting hole and a domed washer nip the nut up and make sure the tapers on the bushes locate in the mounting holes. then do up repeat for the other end.
 
we fitted my rears at a local comp in the morning while swaping tyres took about 10minutes a side due to them expanding and being a PITA doing it on wet grass. I was surprised that the ommitted the locating washers which are WAY different to the domed washers which are not suitable for locating the shock centralizing it and stopping the pin from hitting the mount.

I prefer the older way of mounting it and would have done if I had new std bushes kicking about but I didn't All i wil say is that they may wear out quicker because the rubber is centralising the pin isolating it from the mount rarther than the combination of a bush and special metal washer
 
1 Domed washer
2 Bush taper facing mounting hole,
3 mounting hole
4 bush taper facing mounting hole,
5 domed washer,
6 Nut

Make sure the bushes face the correct way i.e the tapers on them (3 and 4) locate in mounting hole in turret and bottom shock mount.
 
right! just been in the garage, i get what you say now, didnt notice the tappers on the bushes were different, so the bushes go straight on the metal of the axle bracket and the turret...metal cups against the damper and the nuts

like this (showing the top), the turret will be between the rubber bushes, right?

If you fit them as you had them in your pic with domed washers they will move about and cause a knocking noise eventualy wearing the pin on the shocks away. If you fit as above and make sure the bushes locate as you do them up they will work as they should. if they do not locate correctly then they will knock or clonk when you go over bumps.
 
yeh... now i understand why they may fail...the rubber will eventually give way and the damper will start moving around and hit the axle bracket....

just checked the old metal cups and they dont fit properly on the bush or else I would use them
 
Sorry but had to say the clonking woulda ****ed you off! I'd have thought more people on here that do this often woulda known this. Which is scary!
 
ho right! so the bush will be enough... I see... as long as the tapper on the bush is mounted perfectly on the hole.. right!
 
To confuse things I have the metal cups fitted the other way the way you have them can slightly limit movement and put more strain on the pins this again may well be why pins fail at the bottom and inpropper installation. Happens all the time!

I have seen them fitted both ways on greenlane motors and road going motors and been ok However I believe them to fit domed face towards the bushes same as the top shock mount. As this allows them to move about. Not so important on the front as the shocks pretty much stay in line But on the rears its a must as they twist out when compressing and Why they break pins. Inpropper installation again.

You would think that the dome goes the way you have it in the pics to some how cup the bush but its not really needed and I believe to be the wrong way of fitting them.

For any long travel applications its best to fit domed side in towards the bush as is changing to pin to pin rears. But thats another story if your going into 40 inch tyres and plus 5's.

Procomp did a whole warranty thing for lots of people years back quite alot of failures but was mainly due to poor fitting.

not the ones i fitted but was 4 years since they failed upon inspection on poor quality welds never had same thing with others
 
ho yeh, understand what you mean...

when fitted like I have on the pic, under articulation, when it twists, the bush is kind of "sandwiched" to the whole surface of the metal cup, having no room for movement...

if you turn the metal cup the other way, then the bush can travel along the curved face of the metal cup..

is that what you mean?

so should I fit the rear ones like that? with the metal cup the other way?
 
No Problem JP any time. I wouldn't want you breaking your new shocks or owt.

As your doing this properly Its defo worth checking max droop. Make sure your propshaft yokes do not bind up on full deflection i.e wheel hanging and propshaft at maximum angle otherwise when your articulating you will spit out your propshaft in a heart beat!

If you cover all these coupled with correctly rated springs you will have a very good setup indeed far better than most and totally reliable if maintained again unlike many.
 
I'd fit the rears domed face into the bushes. I only have them on the rear of my mota so far when I make some more money I'll get the fronts.

Exactly!!

Me I'd fit the rears at least with the metal cups the other way to your pics.
