CB Radio advice,

Ideally the head unit is going to live in the Disco Cubby box and the antena is going to be a rear gutter mount,

Or perhaps this is more suited as a solution ?

Thoughts ?

We bought a TTI TCB-1100 with a Thunderpole aerial.

The unit won't fit into a D2 cubby box, already tried that.

The aerial is going on the side of the car just round from the rear lights, so we can access the bolts and connections by taking the light units out. Means drilling holes but it makes a nice secure mounting and you can unscrew the aerial and leave the base behind, no cables to worry about and it feeds into the interior via the air flap behind the trim.

But I've since wired it in properly and have the mic on a mic holder on the ash tray that pops out

think i'm going to get a dash mount, dont fancy any passengers kicking it

the group I go out with are thinking of hand held CB"s as they are usefull when winching or guiding over obsticles

Handheld CBs can be a bit bulky nor are they ideal for mobile use, either you'll end up with a load of cables coming off it for power, aerial and mic or it'll be a contortion trick to use inside with the long flexi aerial. I'd be inclined to get decent mobile rigs fitted and keep a pair of cheap 446MHz handsets in the glove box if you need to talk from outside.

how are they going to be kicking it on the trans tunnel

I've just picked up a tti tcb660 today and I'm wondering whether to fit it to the trans tunnel on my D1 or remove the cubby hole and make a base to mount it to in the cubby's space

must be honest, my cb is fitted in my footwell on the side of the tunnel, but i cant see the face of it very well.
its a bit of good kit with multi function so it really needs moving to a more readable position in my disco 1..

My rather bulky CB (from the 1980's) sits happily and securely on my D1's dash held down by double sided sticky.

We used a shortened version of the TCB bracket, screwed it to the side of the tunnel so that the radio stands up proud of the edge of the centre console.

I can reach it pretty easily and you don't really need to be swapping channels etc much on the move.







Mike bracket we screwed to the ashtray front, got a new spare one off ebay to replace it for a few quid.

same position as mine as said before when ur on the move laning or something ur all on the same channel anyway

mine sits in the same place as lister with the mic either on the side of the radio or under the cig lighter socket as the previous owner left a mic holder on the side of the tunnel

I have yet to fit mine in mite do it on Monday ( day off )

how does everyone know what channel everyone is using? I get the idea of arranging a meet and stating what channel for the meet but for general driving about does anyone have their cb on? if so how do you know when you spot someone with a cb whip on the top of their vehicle what channel they are on, does anyone display 'their' channel on the vehicle or do you just constantly scan or not use it at all?

to be honest i only have mine on when im out laning or out with friends its been said on here somewhere before a suggestion of channel 16 4x4 and all that

I think our TCB 1100 enables two channels to be monitored for traffic, so run on 16 and monitor 19 for general stuff.
