Replacement diesel engine for a P38

I have had problems with the engine in my P38 which has blown a gasket, had a replacement re-engineered cylinder head and once again now has a suspected cracked head. I am now wondering what to do next. I could fit another head or replace the whole unit.

Can anyone recommend a good supplier of re-engineered Heads or complete engines for this vehicle. I live in the North of England so hope that there is a supplier in this part of the country

Send the re-engineered head back to the supplier for a refund or replacement, unless that is you have a problem that is causing it to overheat.

Who was the head re-engineered by Noddy? It should have benn pressure tested as part of the process.

Rebuilt with guarantee & complete with new valves springs, & cams all in place ready to bolt on £500 exchange. You pack up the old one & they collect when you are ready - were very helpful as it took me a few weeks due to doing this in my freezing garage.

Thanks for the responses. The head was supplied by the company that supplied nisbeam's head. From the head being fitted some months ago (3000 miles) There has been a continuous slight water loss but no pressurizing. They have been told about the problem and the head is being removed from the car ready to send back. I am simply trying to determine if they are the best suppliers. Prisewise they were the best deal. Not sure how they will respond to the return. There could be other suppliers that you guy's would recommend.

Datatec mentions overheating, the temperature gauge never moved from the just before 12.00 O'clock mark. A mechanic thinks the crack is on the inlet side as there is a slight pink smeer (antifreeze) on No 4 port. A sniff test proved negative.

I was thinking of replacing the whole unit as the engine in the car is not original and not sure of the mileage. The engine does not use oil and the performance seems fine. Maybe I'm getting paranoid!! There seem to be a number of second hand engines on the market this move would eleminate the head building but may have more complications. Putting in a re-engineered engine would give the car a base line mileage. Any recommendations on the best source of a rebuilt engine.
