Hi I ahve a heater issue with my classic. It will not blow hot, if you allow it to warm up and then turn the blower on it blows warm for a short while, but starts to get colder, till it's lukewarm at best.

The car has an LPG conversion fitted and the vaporiser was plumbed in parralel, I had thought this might be causing the issue, and reducing flow to the heater matrix however re plubing it in series has made no differance. It has also had a new themostat which has made it run warmer and it now warms up much faster.

This is the first cold spell scinceI replaced the whole heater as the motor in it had failed.. and prior to that it had no heater fan!

I did think it may be an air lock, but I would exepct the vaporiser to freeze if that was the case

Try flushing the heater through with a hose pipe as it might well be full of sludge.
You will soon know if it blocked as the water will come out the other pipe like chocolate milk shake.

had the same thing on mine, flushed it in the summer and it was clear as a bell.

I tried everything but it still didnt work, anayway coincidently coming home yesterday the bloody thing exploded and flooded the car

not sure why yet, I though the h/g or vally had gone but bypassed the heater and it seems ok at the mo thank God.

I wont be missing much as it had been exactly the same as yours for 2 years before it went so cold then and cold now brrr! :p

no vacumn to heater flaps..so it wont go on to hot...thats if it has this function..(ie my 87 4 door has)

if not .ie early (like my 2 door)then its blocked or the pipes to it are..or..maybe..the vaporiser takes alot of heat, mine is in parallel with a restrictor in the vaporiser line to direct most water to heater..make sure the heater is in line with the flow of hot water before the vaporiser if in series...

early heaters are crap for some reason compared to later...i will be installing an extra heater in the rear asap..

it was my 1990 classic that fooked up and it made no difference with the vacume, yes it was disconnected but after I took the dash out,, tested and reconected the line it still made no differnce and yes the heater was bled up time and time gain and flushed out throughly.

anyway I never got to the bottom of it and now its exploded :p

I have 2 rrc's my white one had a fantastic heater. On lpg no noticable drop in temp. Warmed up fast and got roasting. only thing was you had furnace or luke warm lol.

Brown one took ages to heat up, cold air from heater. Changed thermostat and that made it better but not great. Also on lpg.

Check you matrix pipes where they go through bulk head in engine bay. If they are get hot then its something inside cock pit.

If pipes are cool then flush system. Does the engine warm up quickly?

Yes the engine warms up quiet quickly not it has a new thermostat, however I still have the heater issue. I also have now noticed a few others which are possibly related to haveing had the heater box out, namely a whole load of electrical systems now do not work which did before this. They are the dash lights, rear window desmister, wing mirror defrost (yep they were working, I was surprised as well when they did last winter!) and the heated washer jets. Memory says I had to undo a load of earths when I changed the heater box (due to a dead motor) but memory fails on where they were, and on the matter of if they were put back!

The wiring on the whole works! as far as the heater is concerned anyway. I do know the vac pipe for the recirc valve is shot, but by the time I noticed it the heater box was back in, and I can't see this making the heater cold, but as vac lines have been mentioned I should posibly say that when I got the car the whole lot were flapping about in the engine bay, and i have yet to have a definitive answer as to where they all go, although I have got the cruise working and the adv/retard. Rest is still a mystery, obviously one of the lines is to the recirc valve, the is another disapearding down the drivers side of the bulkhead.. conected to nothing in the engine bay. There is a vac resevior on the inner arch, some pipes into that a Y peice with 2 pipes..

But rave and haynes say B all about them, but as far as the heater box goes only the recirc seems vac opperated would be nice to know what the lines are and how they should be connected!

out of interest, which of the heater pipes is the inlet, and which is the outlet? I have the vaporiser plumbed into the one with the filler tower on it. all pieps seem to be at the same temp

Oh I was a licenced aircraft engineer..

may help.
I had a similar prob, and reversing the pipes seems to have helped, there's still heat emerging, (but not copious amounts) and I'm fairly sure it's still plumbed 'backwards' and there's probably a large piece of scale or something restricting the flow, but I'm not about to disturb it in this weather and risk no heat at all.
I can offer no advice re the vac control pipes as I've never had any problems - oh nooooooooo - shouldn't tempt fate like that . . .!

Good luck

A

would be nice to know where the vac pipes should go though! if anyone with a working classic vogue SE could have a look it would be nice!

well two do go to that resevoir and if you look closley the hoses are different sizes as are the nipples on the resovoir.

they operate the flap which allows heat rom the matrix into the blower stream, as the matrix has hot water in it all the time-well if it works which it seems a growing number on here dont

funny thing is, in contrast to my 1990 classic the heater on my 1972 classic which is unrestored works a treat lol
