Question p38 wont try to turn over. Immo?

Hi, really hope someone can help, my p38's battery was completely dead for about 5 days. I've put a new battery on and it wont start. the key remote works fine on all doors and manually in the drivers door. I turn the ignition on all as normal, message centre says usual window set msgs but no fault message or immobiliser msg. It wont try to turn over as if immobilised tried EKA but remote seems to operate ok. PLEASE HELP a Landyzone newbie.

Post Re: p38 wont try to turn over. Immo?

hi, the only click comes from a couple of relays nothing near the starter motor. ive looked at some of irishrovers old posts and it looks like the becm is not talking to the ecu. ie the becm is alarm locked or lost its handshake with the ecu. iether way it needs to plugged in to sort it. does this sound probable??

ps the 'check engine' ignition light does not light up. this apparently indicates the above problem.

thanks for your response.

pps its a 4.0 V8 Auto.

You need the "Check Engine" light on before you can start the engine. Either it's out of synch or more likely locked out.

What you are looking for is someone who has the BECM Direct memory module. Test Book doesn't do it, neither does Autologic. I think there is someone in South Wales or there is Rick the Pick or Andy R in the UK.
If you are stuck, I can do it but you will have to send the becm over to me...total turnaround in about 5 days, unless you want to pay mega money on next day delivery both ways.

Power to the OBD socket comes via a 3A or 5A fuse on the becm fuseboard, behind the trap door on the drivers seat skirt...can't remember exactly which one, the handbook will tell you.
The obd is only a link to read and write to all the individual ecu's. A problem with the wiring to the socket, other than a short circuit is unlikely to cause the becm to hang up.

There's also a 5a fuse in the under bonnet fuse box that powers the OBD socket.

You wont read anything if this 5a fuse has blown.

Irish, unless the dash is sprouting out keycode lockout i don't think he needs our skills with the becm. I think it's just a gems relearn thats needed.

Turned out the obd plug had some corrosion in it, after a quick clean it connected and a re-synch made my range breathe fire again!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many thanks to landyzone members that offered advice which helped me to do the right things at the right time and as a result got it fixed for only 52 inc VAT.

special thanks to T & S Norman. Somersets best kept secret!
