i have just replaced the battries in the keyfob and it still wont unlock or open the doors do i need to take it to land rover so they can sort it out?

Did you fit two batteries ??
Is the cover on correctly as there is a small prong on the PCB which has to line up and contact the small tab on the battery cover when it's in position (Mark on cover matched with the one on the case)

If you have done the batteries ok you need to sync with the car again. This should be in the manual as I cannnot remember which key to press when locking /unlocking

Forgot to say..are the batteries in the right way round... + towards closed end of holder (Both batteries).
If you have fitted CR2032 batteries they are a little thicker than CR2025, but they do work.

point the key fob at the centre of the car and keep pressing LOCK and UN-LOCK buttons symultaniuosly untill it unlocks.

note: may not always work depending how long it has been out of sync for.

According to Rave for NAS Spec (North American Spec), if the car is unlocked, press the lock button and lock the car with the key. Vice-versa if the car is locked. But mine's a 98 and I'm sure it re-synched the spare key by inserting it into the ign. Not at home at the moment so can't try anything or check the handbook.

98 was the year when they changed the synching I believe. Could be either way described. The other way is to do the 4 times trick which is, key in lock and holding the lock button, turn the key to lock then back to vertical, release button, press unlock and turn to unlock position, return to vertical and release button. Repeat four times and that should be it. We have a 97 and a 2000 model which do it DW's ways respectively and used to have a 1998 which did it the third way as I have described. Try all three.

Is there not a time limit (like 30 seconds) on battery changing, after which it's a reprogram of fob?

i tried the 4 times thing and it still wont work its looking like i will be using the key still lol nothing seems to work with the thing

@ Mr D, no the original fobs supplied when the car is new are pre programmed to the car and just need re-synchronising as and when. You can also programme another two but they have limited functionality - no lazy locking etc. The timing is for when you disconnect the battery and don't want the back up alarm sounding. You get 17 seconds between turning off the ignition and pulling the earth terminal (have it all slackened first). There is also something in unlocking the car by the key and then pressing the unlock button too. I think that is within 30 seconds. Try that too chunkrs.
