Hi
I have a 30th Anniversary Ltd Edition model, my 4th P38. You guessed EAS issue. It is a soft fault I think. The only icon showing is the rangy icon with the arrow. No fault warning wording shows. The lights are all on the ride height switch. The suspension intermittently responds to the swich although I dont know what level I am on until I get out. If I run the car for 5 to 10 minutes with the door open the ride height switch is instantly responsive but all lights are on. It is currently standing at normal ride height. I have left it for a day and it is still in the same place yet the rangy icon and arrow are still there.Does this suggest no air leaks? Sometiemes when I knock engine off I can hear air ejection and solenoid noise, but not every time. Big subject any ideas for a baseline investigation would be appreciated. Great being a member of the forum

:welcome2: A location would help. Have you got the lead and software to clear the fault? if not give Datatec a PM, he will fix you up for not a lot. It is normal to hear air being exhausted when you switch off, saves the compressor starting up against pressure. Check out Wammers EAS guide in the "how to" section.:D

Cheers guys

Glad to be on the forum.

Just another conundrum for you. Original soft fault, all the ride height lights were on and the rangy with the arrow, plus usual ABS light etc as normal. Went out today, started car, all lights out apart from SRS light. The plot thickens, any ideas men. Any help appreciated. Only thing I have replaced is the eas delay relay under driver seat. Plug and play no probs. Any ideas where to look. Plus f18 30A under drivers seat I discover is missing.

SRS light can be:- the cables under the seats if it has side airbags, part and re-make the connectors, it can also be the rotary coupler behind the steering wheel, lastly it can be triggered by low battery voltage, this last can only be reset with diagnostics.

Cheers for that.
I have done a quick check and found out that fuse1 under drivers seat is blowing as soon as the connectors touch. It just arcs. This is the instrument cluster fuse hence no cluster lights. I have touched nothing how does that fuse connection just fail? Any ideas how to test and repair. Great to know there is gelp out ther being a complete novice.
Kind Regards
Fred

Hi Guys
Can't get my car on diagnostics until next week, but another unusual event.
Update on my eas soft fault. Went out earlier. The rangy and arrow soft fault icons had gone, and the switch on the eas ride height switch was working fine. Lifted suspension beautifully with individual lights on height indicator doing their job. I measured heights from centre of wheel to top of wheel arch, all correct apart from from right which was one inch down at all heights. This is the corner that has been the problem. I did it about four times and the all lights came back on and rangy and arrow appeared again. Ride height switch wouldn't move suspension, and it seemed asthough it had run out of air. Anybody experienced this one before?

Open a door and leave the engine running to top up the air tank. And stop pi88ing about with the switch !!:D

Dodgy front sensor perhaps? Soft fault will clear itself, but then of course come up again when it senses a problem or incorrect signal. Wait till you get it on diagnostics or lots of guessing.

Tomcat. You hit the nail on the head. It's the same as when I get a cut I keep opening it up to see if it's any better. Never is!! Kevwill I am coming around to your conclusion so I got a couple of front height sensors to change. If I change them will I need to calibrate them? Cos that is where I jump off the bridge!!! Great crack this forum. I will keep you posted cos I think it hopefully can be easily sorted when diagnostics do reset.
Told my mates if I die not to let my missus sell my car for what I told her I paid for it!!!!
Cheers men

Changing Height Sensors will require recalibration as they are not precision devices.

That could either be the height sensor or a leaking airbag. Once all the lights and up arrow come on indicating a soft fault the suspension is frozen and will not respond to the button. Lack of air due to a leaking air bag or a height sensor can cause that.

Think his lack of air problem was that he kept changing heights. Had it going up and down like whore's drawer's:D:D

Hi guys

Tomcat. You know me so well already. The amount of times I have had the ride height switch up and down, if it had been whores drawers I would have missed the pleasure!!! Datatek thanks for the input. All my gut feeling and the responses I have had from you guys and gleened off line suggeste air bag or sensor. Cross fingers, and hope it's an easy fix. I have had the car 2 weeks and only driven it a mile!!! Missing all the good weather. Afraid it goes into hard fault. Anybody got any contacts for anyone in West Cumbria with a P38 who I could meet and cry together. I am way over on the West Coast near Whitehaven in Cumbria.
Wish I had joined this forum years ago. Top team

If the airbags are old, replace the lot before the leaks knacker the compressor. They have a design life of 7/8 years 80K miles. Not expensive.

Hi Datatek
I have gone out to the car today, and it is still in the same ride height position. Albeit the front right is still down an inch. I switched on and lo and behold the soft fault light has gone out again and the ride height switch is showing one light in the position as motorway level. I did not attempt to touch the ride height switch at all this time( I'm learning fast) and I moved the car. Nothing dropped or moved but front right stayed put an inch low. My local garage reset my previous vehicle at £60 a shot, and did not tell me what the fault was, and I did ask. Two days later it was back again. I think they did not tell me so I would go back for another £60. Hope they are more forthcoming this time. They make it sound more complex to get you to the garage for a massie repair bill!!

Is there an idiot proof way to recalibrate the height sensor if I fit one myself to the front right. I could have done that days ago, but my biggest worry is knocking it all out of sync. Any help or direction to a video or website that could guide me. Don't wanna start if I get lost and cant recover where I started from.

Appreciate your time

With the EAS software and cable (I can supply) a recalibration is dead easy if a little time consuming the first time. You will not knock it out of sync.
You leave a door open or the tailgate while you are swaping the snsors and then the EAS has no idea you have your hand in it's knickers:)
