hmmm, dont know which way to vote really. If it was quite literally just the diesel or the petrol i would say go for the diesel, better MPG, less problems with overheating and no slipped liners however, last night when i filled mine up, the price of diesel round here is 103.9. Ok, yes, the price of fuel is always on the up but its getting bloody expensive these days so maybe a 4.0 on LPG would be the better alternative.

I guess alot of people will say go with the 4.0 because the diesel is as slow as bla bla bla but at the end of the day I can do near on 400-425 miles a tank whereas the petrols can only do around 250ish.

I love my diesel RR as its an everyday vehicle for me so its cheaper to run than a petrol one in the long run but it depends on how your going to use it I guess. When I next buy a RR it will be one of the new L322 ones (excluding my idea to get a Classic as an offraod toy) but will probably be a V8 supercharged one, however, my plan is to only really use that on weekends etc and keep my DSE as my everyday run about.

In the end its up to you, I can say I truly love my DSE, so what if it doesnt move and accelerate away as quick as a 4.6 engined one, it still gets me from A to B without any fuss, in the end it isnt a sports car!!

Wills is spot on.

For me a 4.0 Petrol with LPG is a far better toy than its less powerful diesel brother.

The new L322 diesels are brilliant....but you don't get that engine option with the old P38...also I didn't like the noise the diesel makes...as someone on here put it "the accelerator pedal is like a engine volume button...you don't go faster....the engine gets louder!!".

I love the diesel mines the 2.5 DHSE RR fuel wise (south wales to looe cornwell) 234miles 1 FULL TANK of diesel doing 70/80 all the way for me i would'nt have a petrol to much maintainance for me plugs leads and all that stuff ill stay with the snail thanks but the petrol head will not agree with me depends on wot you want

How right you are Alan ;)

Fraid an lpg'd V8 is THE cheapest way to run a rangie
In fact, if you are only getting 234 miles from a tank of diesel then a straight petrol aint far behind !
I can get from my house to Pickering, 4 up and a hoooge roof box on a tankfull - it's 226 miles exactly
Mind you I am assuming the tanks are the same size ! :D

As much as I dislike BMW,long term the diesel is a better bet LONG term. The hidden costs of LPG maintenance are what people dont like owning up to,ignore it then you realise why so many v8 LP's are for sale with engine problems.

sorry kenny i only put miles for 1 way ditstick that i am its 464 miles on a full tank round trip on a full tank that will teach me to get more sleep and look at what im typing sorry M8:rolleyes:

I have to say that my LPG petrol is smooth quiet and refined just as the designers intended. I have only driven one diesel, which had been chipped, and even that seemed sluggish and noisy. I think you'll find every RR over biased towards what they drive and will always find fault with the "opposition". You really need to look at your own requirements for the car and whichever meets that best. Whichever you choose I'm sure you wont be disappointed.

Why stick to the 4.o i run a 4.6 with sequential gas injection came backdown from Scotland last week at a swift pace it is quiet refined and cheap to run but do the conversion yourself ie get it done yourself and by a really good installer and you will have no probs - i saw dozens of poor installations when i was looking so bought the car and had the conversion done for me - at least i know its good. Good luck

4.0 lpg, 126ltr tank behind back seat 94 litre tank in spare wheel well and full 22 galls of petrol, all ready to go to Ireland, imagine that going up on the HSS fast ferry, single point LPG as well

I would have a diesel but with the sound of a V8, Land Rover have done that now , i only have to wait till the wife gets another 2 jobs and i am having one.

Stick to the V8. Okay mine has cost me loads in over the year of owning her. But she will return 18 to 22 mpg, and its quick, quite and in sports mode will give most modern cars a run for there money. Why have a underpowered tractor when you can cruise in comfort with the sound of the V8..... Plus paid 97.8 pence a litre today for petrol, rather than the 1.04 for diesel.

There's now a 5p per litre difference in price between petrol and diesel here just now - not that long ago it was only about 1p
Getting harder to justify a diesel now :p

and wots the diff in MPG?

ffs - wots the fuel costs per mile?

LPG and diesel are the same cost per mile, if diesel is £0.95 per litre but you get 400 miles and 200 miles on LPG but costs £0.45 per litre the costs are the same.

The next question is do you want a less powerful engine that is loud as hell when you floor the accelerator. If so choose a diesel....

Want fun? choose an LPG.

or stick with the original and run a v8 on petrol.... To be fair this would have been so much easier if Land Rover had stuck to there guns and just not offered a diesel option in a Range Rover
