o well one can dream. in most cases older cars that are not landrover are scrapped i dont see many 1996 vaxhals fords ect ect on the road mad hatter good point but thats new sales although in future terms you could say its declining :)

Older UK cars are exported in large numbers to third world countries that drive on the left.
P38's are being scrapped at an ever increasing rate, L322's will follow them as too difficult and expensive to keep running.

welcome to the mad house.

Maybe it wouldbe worth adviseing us how it is going to be kept most of the time when you are not using it.
You will need some hints and tips I think..The p38 is no normal car and for one not to be uesed often can be a problem.

Lets have some photos?

Most German stuff has been poor for years, it's just the marketing that's good. Every German car I've owned has been poor quality, in the case of Porsche, even worse than a P38.

I would have agreed whole heartedly until I sat in cab that had 450,000 kms on it. Driver said most Berlin cabs are run to between 600,000 and 900,000 on one engine with only routine (but scrupulous) maintenance. Most such cabs are diesel mercs, not some special taxi edition, the same one you or I could buy.

We all know the frogs love the ****ron Diane :)

At least they are reliable;)

My cousin had a brand new ****ron after 10 months she took it back to the dealers (it had spent 3 months in the dealers, the last straw was when the engine blew up after 6000 km) and got a renault.

Sorry but every manufacturer has a Friday special, unfortunately LR seem to only work on a Friday......:behindsofa:

Where did you get that from? Just possible with the Series I suppose, There are more Renault 11's and Citroen Deux Cheveau's running here than there are Landies:)

I've seen the stat published before, not the most s/h cars on the road obviously but LR have the the highest percentage of cars manufactured still in use. However with the advent of vastly more complex vehicles produced over the last 15 years that figure will have taken a hammering over the last couple of years and will continues to do so.

The newer ones may still be on the road, mostly stood still because they don't run or on the back of a low loader if they are moving:)
It can only be because of the huge numbers the military used to buy. France, OZ and other countries no longer buy LR because they are unreliable. The G Waggen seems to rule:mad:

i dont think the mod found the defenders unreliable

You forgot to mention the ridiculously over-complicated yet primitive design. I've never had a car before this one with electric windows and sunroof that need to be manually recalibrated every time you disconnect the battery.

Or 3 windows wired to one circuit whilst the left rear is wired to the circuit that the rear demister is on! :)

My local specialist advised me that I should use the car a bit but not too much, wtf? :D

Interesting points of view on "quote ****ron" My daily driver is a DS Pallas almost trouble free apart from one breakdown close to Preston on the M6 :jaw: the part to fix was a stupid £7.00 and garage had to remove radiator and half the engine to fix, labour was a staggering £600. Come on you Brits where is your sense of loyalty to Land Rover you own them as would not be here :D

I've owned my 1995 2.5DT for 5 years now, used for weekends and holidays.
Its only ever let me down once when the clutch roll pins failed, still drove it home. One of the best vehicles I've owned but I do maintain it myself, had to do all the usual age/usage related bits. I'd like to own a classic 3.5 running on carbs.

Don't need it for work as I have a works van.

In the past I've owned a Series1 80 (1600cc/3500cc), 86 (2000cc/2250cc), 2A LWB SW (3500cc) and a 110 V8 HT and a FJ40 Diesel Land Cruiser, plus Jags, Singer Vogue, various Fords and a three pin plug many many years ago (Regal 600cc).

I've had plenty of ****oëns, GS, GSA, CX Turbo 2 (the car I've enjoyed owning most), BX, Xantia, XM and C5 - never had an unreliable one. The GSs and CXs needed careful maintenance. But the BX, Xantia, XM (Mk2) and C5 were bulletproof. Far more reliable than any Audi or BMW I've ever owned.

I've had a GS and an XM estate. The GS melted it's distributer cap en route to Cornwall for some reason but that was it's only failure. The XM was a petrol auto and took all sorts of stick with no problems at all, towed my digger all over the place. Better then either my Porsche or BMW:)
