Just bought a new spare key from the stealers for my 2002 L332 and I need to code it into the car but am not having much luck.

I understand it is a relatively simple process of holding in certain buttons on the fob and turning/unturning the door locksets for a number of seconds.....tried this method.... Replacement and Reprogramming the BeCM, Locks, Remotes, or ECM

but no joy. I am reluctant to get the dealer to do it as he wanted to charge another £50 or so just for the priviledge and having just paid them £600 this month I am loathed to cross his palm with any more money.

I've had a quick search on the internet and I believe the key is also similar to the BMW systems so something might explain it on there but was just wondering if anyone on here had managed sucessfully?

I'd appreciate any pointers,

Thanks,

Mike

unfortunatly you will need the dealer,or someone who has the right diagnostic gear to programme the key to the car,or anyone could by a key from a dealer and drive off with your motor.

The info in your link refers to LP RR's - not your L322,so no good.Your dealer is being a cheeky git - it does not need Testbook or IDS to code up your fobs, nor is it £50 worth of work. There is a simple proceedure to follow, cant remember it exactly, but I have sheet at work with it on - I'll try to remember to post it up tomorrow.

Thanks for the replies fellas,

I did have to provide a load of info (V5, utilities bills, drivers licence etc)to get the key in the first place and it is pre cut so it will unlock the doors and start the engine, just no key fob functions.

Both the guy in parts and the guy in service said it was simple enough to do when I spoke to them separately and didn't involve any sophisticated software. The guy in parts wasn't too sure how to do it though and the guy in service wanted to charge me (This being the bleedin credit crunch and all that....)

Eightinavee, if you have got some info i'd appreciate it.

Mike

i stand corrected then,im sure someone will be around who knows, does it not tell you anything in the handbook, that came with the car, providing you have one?

1) Get in and close all doors. Turn ignition on and off quickly and remove the key (all within about 5 seconds).

2) Within 30 seconds of turning the ignition off, hold down the "unlock" button and press the "lock" button three times. Release the "unlock" button.

3) Quickly put the key back in the ignition and turn it on/off again to finalise.

Thanks for that Bemble - saved me walking back to the worshop after lunch and searching through my service files !

That worked for me as well - thanks. Had some work done by the Main dealers on the ignition barrel - when I came to try my second key (6 months later...) it wouldn't unlock the doors... it does now!

Hmmm - key I've just programmed works fine - the original key no longer turns of alarm or opens the doors... how do I get both in Sync?

If it's a similar system to the P38, you can only program one No.1 key, therefore if you have been supplied with a no.1 key and you already have one, it will not recognise the original and vice versa.

Thanks for the responses fella's. I ended up calling an old friend who has access to the autodata computers over the weekend.

Process as Bemble says but I don't think we had to put the key back in the ignition. Bit annoying knocking my original key out of sync after i got the new one working but got there in the end following method below.

To have two or more keys functioning you have to program ALL keys again in tandem, same process but don't put the second key in the ignition, just need to hold the unlock button and press lock button 3 times on the second key, release unlock button then the doors will lock and unlock. Note you must do the second key within 30 seconds of programming the last, also as I said above you only need to turn the ignition to position 1 once in the whole process.

I was messing about trying to get both keys in sync and was having no joy because I was reinserting the second key in the ignition. Also I found that I had to manually unlock the doors and start all over again before finally managing to get both keys working.

But all working now after 5 mins trial and error and thanks to you lot and my pal and saved having to pay main stealer costs

Worked for me as well - both keys now working - and as an added bonus appears to have activated the "Lazy boy" functionality so seat and wheel now adjust depending upon which key you are using.

Thanks for the instructions! :)

i can never get that function,on my p38,not that the wheel self adjusts anyway, but the seats can be programmed to work off which ever key is used, instead i have to press the button on the seat before i get in,as it won,t work of the keys:mad:

Hi Guys I know this is an old post, but I have tried the method and cannot get the second key to Sync. I have a 2008MY L322 and the second key (both dealer supplied from new) has stopped working from a remote fob perspective. It will unlock the car and start it, but does not remotely lock/unlock. I can get one key to work but not both, the confusing bit is that they were both working and supplied new with the car!

I would appreciate any pointers!

Thank you.

Have you checked the battery in the second fob ? ;)

From memory the proceedure is different for 06 on cars,I'll try to remember to look it up at work tomorrow.

I think the battery is ok in both fobs as I can get either fob working, but not both at once!

Does textbook mean a main dealer then?

Just a thought, how about if you had a friend help and you both sat in the car each with a key and pressed the buttons at the same time in the same sequence? Could have a prob trying to get them both in the ignition at the same time though so that would have to be one after the other!
