Well I kind of guessed it might happen some day just thought it would be okay for more than 4 days. Drove to work this morning and the car was fine, got in it to come home and I have trans failsafe reading on the display ( I say reading but display is losing pixels), car stuck in 4th not changing gears, whether in manual or sport let alone D, sodding thing!
Been looking on here and seen comments about the rumble and jerkyness that can happen, which I just started to notice on mine yesterday, what a apin in the arse I can see this becoming.:(

Ive not got a L322 but i feel for you mate :(

Cheers Littlewill, had been really enjoying my RR motoring up until this point, now kinda thinking I should have known better and stuck with jap, havnt even had it a week but knew it would not be a reliable as a jap, but heyho.
In fairness, when I got home and turned it off, then restarted it, it wa back to normal but this wont lat.

Not really the best start then.. you going to change the oil and hope it was just a hiccup or raid the piggy bank for a new box?

owned 4 days ? take it back.they all fail in the end your just wasting money on oil/filter change cause it only postpones it & is not a cure imo mine failed at 93000,ps don't drive it anymore cause if its slipping into top gear & making a bang noise it could fracture the gearbox casing making it un-reconable & very very expensive

Thanks for the advice, I have only done 160 miles in it since purchasing last week, spoke to the trader that sold it to me and I can see a long dispute coming on. He claims we spoke about this at the time of purchase but that's not entirely correct, what we spoke about was a description in his advert that said there was an occasional little flutter on up shifts, I am guilty of not finding a forum like this one, where I could have found advice on this flutter on up shifts, having not done this, I presumed it could have been in need of a decent service or indeed new plugs ( V8), although whilst test driving it, I never even got any flutter, the box changed gears fine to me but I guess you live and learn.

That's harsh, did it say anything on any paperwork about the transmission ?
its not a little flutter, the transmission isn't functioning.
What sort of warranty did you have in writing if any
my front suspension collapsed after i drove mine home on the same day but it was a private sale and i drove from north yorkshire to kent..

nothing on paperwork/invoice concerning the gearbox, but because we had agreed a price which was 795.00 below the asking price, it was a sold as seen deal, maybe he know the gearbox was on its way and that's why he was happy to agree on the price, I don't know, but now feeling pig sick and faced with the choice of either just selling it on for a massive loss or just leaving it the drive, at least I still have my trusty 350Z to use.

seen it a few times on here, like myself, bought the vehicle and then straight on here to try and fine out whats wrong with it.

i don't think you will find another vehicle as unreliable as the variant you (we) have, although i had quite a spell with not much wrong but mine is now full of gremlins again.

if you dont fancy the long battle with the trader, then hang around on here hopefully somebody like saint or bemble might call in to help try and find out whats actually causing the problem, it may not be as bad as it seems.
if you are keeping it you will do well to get an all comms diagnostic

hope you get sorted

Was it a private sale? if not go back and quote "fit for purpose":)

cheers tomcat, It was from a dealer who trades from a home address but is a registered company, I did phone him up in the evening I got home having had to drive back with the trans safe mode, I did say I would prefer to hand the car back and get a refund but what I got was the usual, not willing to do that, agreed a reduced selling price, sold as seen, problem highlighted in ad etc etc, I'm sure if I persued all the way I could win a case but how long and how much hassle is that going to be and having had to go through a claim court many many years ago and ending up unsuccessful, I'm not sure I can really be bothered so I might as well fork out 2k and get it repaired.

if he didn't disclose the g/box fault hence the reduced price then threaten him with the small claims court/ legal action and see what happens:)
