Ok so I been searching around but can't find anything, and just now confused.

After reading the Rave Manual for my 2.5 1998, I found that it states Dextron 3 oil should be used for the Auto gearbox.

I am planning to change the filter etc.. this weekend,

I have sitting on the shelf a brand new 5L bottle of Dextron 2D.

Is there much difference between the 3 & the 2D?

Also I know the gearbox oil has been changed before but I'm not sure what oil they put in, If it is Dextron 3 is it ok to mix with 2D? or if it is 2, is it ok to mix with 2D?

Hi. I did this to mine about two weeks ago now. And I did some searches and found that Dex 2 and Dex 3 are compatible i believe so shouldn't be a problem if you mix them no dout some one will correct me if I'm wrong.

Dex 2D will do fine, my schedule states 2D or 3 and they are compatable. Change now and change again after a few hundred miles as you can only get half the oil out.

Use Dexron 3 - or what I use:Lucas ATF Gearbox Fluid Oil High Specification | eBay

Also stick a bottle of this in:LUCAS TRANSMISSION GEARBOX FIX STOPS SLIP 710ml - CLEANS LUBRICATES STOPS LEAKS | eBay

Remember to change the filter

Sell the dex II you have:)

dexron 2 is more than ok

Surely it's only a joke it says Dexron III in RAVE:D, yes I do know that Dex II was recommended for the early Rangies before Dexron III came along, but why compromise?
Time has moved on and Dexron III must be better since Land Rover changed their mind when Dex 3 came along with better properties.
Each to their own, I just don't like to compromise on essentials like oils/fluids etc.:)

Dexron IID or III was recommended for all P38s. Including your model. IID is fine.
