guys,

im going to fit my own replacement exhaust system (cats everything).

is there a handy guide on how to do it? im thinking it should be a pretty straight forward job. is there anything i need to be aware of or make sure i do/dont do?

cheers

lastime i needed an exhaust forra v8 i was told 475 quid fitted i said something along the lines of go away;) and told them i can go elsewhere an get one cheaper, they said ok go an fetch it and we,ll fit it for 30 quid, faireysnuff i said, tookum 3hrs money well spent me thinks;):D:D

sounds like a good plan.....

i was up for a little tinkering myself but if i can get my mech to do it cheap enough ill give it to him!!!

failing that how easy is it for me to do myself?

I had one fitted but it is going back. It is fitted with cable ties and rubber rings but I have been told should be tack welded onto specific points on the body. As well as that quality of exhaust is awful.

If you are ok to do a bit of a weld then self fitment shouldn't be a big issue as it all goes together very easily from looking under the car.

Only final reason I can think of for not doing it would be the car will need to be fairly high up for you to be able to easily manipulate everything into place.

Good luck.

If you are going all the way back including the Cat's., make sure you have all the gaskets, mountings etc. and also get a new set of six M10 manifold studs and nuts (V8), as they are sure to be rusted. Give all the studs, bolts, sensors etc. a good soak with Plus Gas the night before (Don't drive the car, it will burn it away). May also pay to have a stud extractor handy in case one or more of the studs shear off.
Lifting the car high at the front and supporting on axle stands will improve access to the manifold/downpipe studs. The centre and rear box(es) are not too bad.

Biggest problems are going to be rusted nuts/bolts/sensors, and eyes and hair...if you have any...full of ****e !!

i was gonna mention the cross member!! as andras says it is a bit of a nightmare to get it off, on mine i had to replace a few of the nuts and bolts, i would suggest you start with the cross member, that way you will know if you can complete the job. you cannot get the y piece off any other way.

the rest of it is easy except for the manifold end which is just fiddly!!

good luck!!
