So it seems that every time I use the car, something else fails.
Today it was the turn of the eas
After driving maybe 5 miles the car bonged and eas fault came on the dash, I carried on the further 2 miles to work and had a look, compressor was working but was very hot, checked fuses and relays all looked ok, no smells etc, ride height was at normal height
Couldn't spend anymore time on it so thought I'd take a steady ride home tonite and take a look, got 2 miles up the road and the air dropped to bump stops, drove it home steady and had a look, compressor was cold.
Tried connecting eas suite but having connection issues but hopefully ill get that sorted but any ideas what could be causing the eas problem?
Also I have a friend with a diagnostic machine, not LR but does most makes, is this likely to be able to pick up the faults?

Sounds like a soft fault which has not been cleared in time has turned to a hard fault and dropped it down and will not let the compressor run.
Doubt very much if your mates diag will read EAS.

The electronics on the P38 were around before the OBD protocols were agreed so most non-specific fault readers will read the engine but nothing else.

It didn't drop the suspension straight away tho, the compressor was really hot but still going, wasn't until I headed home that it dropped, air springs all looked fairly new, I I replaced last week, the other rear was only a few months old to, when my airbag blew I had to drive it 7 miles on the stops and that didn't bring up a fault

Compressor will get really hot if it is feeding a leak somewhere, but will overheat and shut down at some point. If you have checked all pipes and bags for leaks ,remove and check the compressor as per wammers how to at top of page :)

When you say comp was cold when you checked it,this means it has been off for sometime and you have been feeding the system from only the airtanks contents and when this has been used there is no air left to keep the system levelled or topped up.
Get your EAS software working and go from there.

Hmm defo need to get the laptop to connect then, not actually sure y it won't but i am using a USB port which seems to create problems from what I've read

The list of things that will cause a hard fault is quite extensive, height sensor, lack of air pressure etc. Once it has gone to hard fault it will always drop to the bump stops. This is a safety precaution to keep the car level. Riding on the bump stops will not harm the car, not good for your back though. When I first got mine I did about 50 miles on the bump stops with a caravan on the back:-( Now I always carry the laptop and diagnostics but have never needed it for 3 years until a couple of weeks ago.

Next time you have a "beep" because of EAS, if the car is still level remove the EAS timer below the passenger seat. That way the EAS is disabled and (in case you dont have a leak in springs or spring valves) you will be able to ride home without ruining your back.

Sorted, well fault code cleared and hasn't come back yet, USB was asigned to comm port 36' reassigned it to port 3 and happy days, the fault that came up was rl valve block ( I think) was so happy it cleared I forgot exactly what it said, does that mean anything to anyone? Is there something I need to look at to stop it happening again?

There is no such message, however if the message started with RL, it will probably be Rear Left height sensor. Take the connector apart and clean it (with a door or tailgate open), if it comes back you may need a new sensor.:)

I remembered the code, rl valve stuck closed, would it have anything to do with the fact it was the rl that had the airbag blow out the previous week?

Yes it would. What the ECU really means is, bag blown i have tried to opened RL valve, cannot raise RL because it is leaking like a stuck pig, so i think the RL valve must be stuck closed.

Lol y doesn't it just say that then

It had probably done 30 miles since the bag has been replaced so ill check for any news leaks just in case

The ECU only commands the driver pack to open the valves or close them. It has no way of knowing whether that command has been executed other than by reference from height sensors telling it movement up or down as the case maybe has taken place. If it is for instance commanding a height change from low to std and there is no air pressure to do that, after a certain period of time with no sensor movement. It will report all valves stuck shut. Nothing to do with valve block but a compressor fault. And a bumpy ride home.
