Hi every body hope that somebody can give some advice my 93 lse auto is not getting up the pump is noisily working away so is it the pump,the ride sensors or a leaking valve. i cant hear air escaping and it took ages to go up anyway.also as soon as the engine was switched off the car dropped to bump stops.
It does try to get up but just seems to give up.[email protected]

By what I understand this is a common problem on the LSE's. You need to check all the unions/Pipes/Compressors (or whatever powers the air suspension) as these parts fail.

If you have a reputable garage, after you check everything, you will need it checked by diagnostic equipment.

The air bags tend to rupture where they meet the axles/body joints.

Remember that once fixed (whatever the problem is) you'll have to get the suspension reset using a diagnostic machine 'pooter thingy!

Bought a new pump cost £214.00 inc vat. fitted and working but still doesnt lift car took it to rovamania he charged me £35.00 to claer faults but i dont trust him because he would not explain what he had done only to say the pump wasnt working and i should get a new pump. I then explained again that I had fitted a new pump and he was supposed to be checking with his equipment what the problem is.Suffice to say I beleive that I have been conned. Has any body got any ideas. Or is there any body in the Birmingham area with the no how to help.

I think it is an electrical fault, maybe a fuse or ecu:confused:

David, I have the same problem as yourself, stripped the compressor to find the flimsey piston ring in shreds, turned up another from ptfe, worked fine for a couple of days, then it went again, turned another from nylon, same thing, I've just ordered the compressor repair-kit from Airbagman in Australia. I bought the rovacomlite diagnostics & cleared all the faults & dash lockout, then knocked up a manual pump-up system until the pump kit arrives. It works great!!
However, my question to you is where did you get a new compressor for £214?
yesterday my local LR dealer quoted me £960 + vat!!
 
Hi I dont know if you received my last e mail, but I bought the pump from J L services in willenhall west mids.They reckon that they supply one a week,very helpful people,they sell a load of land rover stuff.

I am still after an e c u,and have found a place in Plymouth called e c u doctor has any body used this company.They will repair an ecu with faults for £90. +p & p.

Was it much trouble getting your pump parts from Ausie.My old pump was working and I am considering refurbing it.
 
Thanks for the info, I will ring & order a new compressor tomorrow. I've ordered the repair-kit from the airbag man in austalia, he only accepts bank-transfer & is $207aus about £84.00 inc post, I hav'nt got it yet as it was only ordered on Sat.
The kit comprises of new crank, piston/ring & cylinder assy.
 
Result!!
All thanks to David, new compressor arrived today, disconnected my M.A.R.S. pipes, fitted the new compressor, 30mins to fit 2 front airbags, hooked up the laptop, cleared the 'lockout' on the dash, switched-on, fired her up & UP SHE WENT !! Drove around, all working 'perfic'.
Still awaiting the compressor repair kit from Airbagman in oz. then i'll have a spare!!
 
Glad you got a result,I am going to try Airbag man for some air bags.
If you dont mind me asking how much was the diagnostic kit. When I get my air springs Iam going to need one
 
Just reread your message ,I gather fitting the air bags is a diy project because I am loathe to hand over any more money to the trade.Is It just me ? or does every r r owner hear "A sharp intake of breath" when they go to a garage.

I won't take any of my vehicles to garages for ANYTHING short of MOT's or for VERY special reasons, which is why I bought the rovacomlite diagnostic kit for £633.I only bought the suspension module to see what it was like, fantastic, i'm going to get the others to complete the system, about the same money again, but once I have that, I should be able to fix anything on the car! Also, I bought my 2 front airbags (genuine dunlops) for £68.00 each from e-bay, they are still for sale, just type in Range rover p38.
Changing the bags is very easy & does'nt take long.

I would be interested to know if anything has to be reset (using computer diagnostics) if the airbargs are replaced 'before' they punture? Mine are 10 years old now and must be getting ready to leak, they are beginning to perish.

My 2.5 DHE is also nearly 10 years old, the airbags were not leaking,but had cracks all around the lower section, since I had the system deflated, I decided to pull out the valve-block & re-ring it, fit my own M.A.R.S. setup, & whack in a new compressor & airbags. If you intend to only fit replacement bags, you will not need to re-set the computer, unless of course it has already 'locked' you out!!
Its a very easy, & quick swapover.
 
The compressor was replaced not long ago by the previous owner, I've just sent for a workshop manual so before they go I think I will change the bags.

Further to all my previous messages.Found that I have lost the bump stop on front offside. consequence,Suspension bottomed ,big hole X 2 in air spring.I have had a look but it looks complicated to me.All the stuff i have looked at makes it look an easy repair.Is it ?.

Got an ecu coming and a pair of s/hand springs.I hope these solve the problem.

Nobody told me Range Rovers are "enthuiasts cars".;)
 
I have not got air suspension on my vehicle , but I the place I work has an H.G.V workshop on site. I have seen them change the air spring on a truck in 20 minutes from start to finish. Air springs are alot easier to change than coil springs.
If you lift the vehicle up and support it on stands under the chassis, this will stop the weight of the vehicle compressing the air spring. Dis-connect the air supply pipe to the spring, this will let all the pressure out (if the vehicle is not on a chassis stand it will sink onto the bump stops). Undo the securing bolts at the bottom of the spring, the may be some at the top. Compress the spring by hand and remove it. Reverse for fitting new spring. The work shop book will detail anything else you need to know.
