Jacked up one wheel in neutral and tried turning it.
By hand I can rock the wheel back and forth and see the prop start turn.
With a breaker bar I can rotate it further and see the prop move but it stiffens up a lot and springs back partially when I release it.

Should it keep rotating? Or is it just turning partially enough to say the VCU is OK?

Also checked it by driving in a tight circle in a car park (felt like being a teenager again!) and it felt fine, no jerkiness or tyre scrabbling.

Took a couple of videos:
Yesterday I changed the light clusters on my p38 because one of the brake lights had blown (a lot of water had got in through a crack and fried it). I was promptly told by the computer which was good.
I have 2 questions:

hello,

yesterday i woke up at 9am and already had a plan set out. it was a nice enough day so i started dismantling the 110.

spare wheel and all chequerplate and grill came off.

all the bubbling got rubbed down/scratched off with 40 grit

then everything got a good going over with 400 grit and a scotchbrite pad in the tight places.

i then masked off some of the important bits and removed anything else i could.

panel wipe all over the thing. then nipped out to the paint shop.

bought myself 2 litres of synthetic satin in RAL 8019 grey brown
1 litre of chassis black, 2 spray cans of etch primer, and 2 mini gloss rollers and a roller tray

i etch primed all the bare metal, let it dry, then got to painting on the brown.

the synthetic was a lot thicker than ive previously used and went on very very thick. i definitely should have bought some thinners and thinned it at least 5:1 but nevermind its done now.

its covered well all in one coat and i used about 1.7 litres for what you can see.

i brushed inthe tight spots then rollered the rest and tryed to get an even look but the the rollers disintegrated as the paint started to dry up so it was tough to get a good flow.

anyway this is where im upto . next to do today is paint chequerplate black, clean grill up and paint black, paint roof gloss black, paint side rails and sills and all hinges and windscreen black. reassemble.

then the final step will be adding extended arches and some huge wheels.

oh and i gota paint the bumper too.

enjoy

I know we are really all together on these issues.

If a mod reads this it would be great if it could be made a sticky

In the Lakes there is a lane called "Stile End". It runs from Sadgill in the Longsleddle valley over the fell to the hamlet on the other side (depending on which way you drive it of course). Many of you will know it.

At the Sadgill end there is a farm with a gate and a choke point which takes some careful manoeuvrings to get through due to the angle. You need to be competent on brake and clutch and careful not to touch the farm or the wall. It's easier going up than down, but the guy who lives at the farm is trying to get the park authority to put a one way TRO on it (down).

If you come across this guy (he's around 70 ish, grey hair, grey beard), please be polite to him, but also do not pay attention to what he says in terms of you driving it. Do not go in a big group, he will make a huge issue of out it. Sticking to the code of conduct (four vehicles max is better) Do not engage with this guy - he will write down your numberplates and try to provoke you. He is doing this deliberately to get a reaction so he can report it to the park authority and the police. Just stay calm and ignore him. He will also "check" your vehicles for road tax disc, tyre tread depth, numberplate size etc etc and if he finds an issue he will report you to the police. When driving this lane its a good idea to have all your documents with you because the police are now monitoring traffic using it.

We had an issue with him a couple of days ago which ended up with my contacting Cumbria Police, and my writing down what happened and having several conversations with them on the telephone. As a result of that, the guy was warned (by the police) not to interfere with people using the lane, and also not to obstruct it. I doubt this will stop him though, so please be aware of it. I'm not going to go into what happened, suffice to say the fact I felt it appropriate to get the Police involved should tell you all you need to know.

Just take care around the gate / choke point area, and have someone gently walk you through it. if you even touch the building or the wall he will cry "criminal damage" (we didn't by the way). Also do not climb on the wall or move rocks UNLESS there are rocks in your path (which there is a possibility that he has placed there so when you move them he will say "criminal damage").

If you drive this lane or have mates who plan to, please let them know about this. It's important that we do not engage with him or otherwise react to him. If you use other forums which involve green lanes please mention it there or link to this and tell as many people as you can.

If you do have a problem with him, please report it right away to PSCO Tom Howarth at Kendal Police. Above all, stay calm and polite no matter what he does. If he breaks the law, report it right away.

If you don't have lockers you will most likely end up winching up this if you go from sadgill upwards (ie west). If there is one of you with front and rear lockers who can go up first that's obviously fine, but if in your group no one has lockers except CDL, it is unlikely you will get up (especially when its wet). There is articulation in the rock shelf and it's tight so please be aware.

Gra.

Was looking ok, but then noticed an amber light on dashboard that does not go off - the ACE. Owner said that it has been like that for about 2 yrs!

Is this not an MOT failure??

Is this car worth buying or would you walk away?

If I buy it I think I would remove the ACE altogether but I would not have the money to do it straight away.

Hi,can anyone help. baught a TD5 a couple of weeks ago, in pretty good condition but rear brakes completely shot , totally seized and had to virtually cut every brake component off with a grinder. Now have brand new Discs, pads Carriers and Pistons etc fitted to both sides, rear only. I have bled the rears, one at a time and am able to build the pressure up in the system after only a couple pushes on the brake pedal during the bleeding process (not swearing, honestly), and the brake fluid runs clear (no bubbles). The brake fluid resivoir is full and the jar I am using to catch the expelled brake fluid in shows that fluid is passing out of the system. I asked my wife to push on the brake pedal, which she reluctantly did , and the pads hold the disc firmly on both sides and when the brake pedal is released, the hubs spin without binding or grinding. I live on a farm and drove down our track, but when attempting to brake, the brake travels virtually to the floor for appx 1 to 1 1/2 pushes on the brake pedal, and then full resistance is felt through the brake pedal and the car stops pretty quickly, much better than before. My question therefore is this. Should my wife consider it her wifely duty to help me bleed the brakes, or go inside instead and watch the apprentice whilst I fix the car so that she can go to some pony club meet at the weekend. No, thats not the question.. the question is.......should I have bled the whole system, fronts and rear, or could it be that I have made some silly schoolboy error. Any assistance/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Rockhopper.

The car was an import from Italy and I read somewhere that Italy has a rule about daytime running lights. Could this be the reason or is it more likely to be a fault?
