You can get steering guards, sump guards, diff gaurds, the steps do just get in the way and end up bent or ripped off.

No big rocks just tree stumps here and there, covered in moss and invisable untill I hit them, going slow as well, but perhaps you are right too hashy, need to get better at reading the hazards but I was going up hill and sliding back was not acceptable since the way back was not straight, I had wiggled my way up past most of the stumps.
