i am trying to find a 2.5in suspension lift for my 95 yj. i am on a
tight budget and im trying to find one for under $400. if anybody has
anything info that could help please let me know. i just found a used
rubicon express lift and was wondering if that was a good idea to get a
used lift. the lift was used for 3 years on another jeep.

thanks

You can check with local 'truck' spring shops, stay far far away from
'specialty 4x4' shops because they think their parts are gold plated,
for a re-arch job.

What they can do is remove your springs and put a new arch into them.
They then can pull the first 'loose' leaf below the main one (the one
with the loops on the end) and replace this leaf with a pre-arched and
tempered 'keeper' spring.

I had this done in the front of my 86 CJ7 on it's stock springs back in
1999 and I wheel hard with a winch up front and still no sag after the
first trip to set thing in, to date. It cost a little less than $200.
for the fronts. I had to replace the back ones because leafs were
broken and did the same thing except the truck shop bought new OEM
springs and arched them with a keeper leaf. This cost more than $200.00
due to needing new springs. Still less than $500.00 total not including
the new shocks I needed. Jeeps with leafs need the cheapest, softest
shocks out there to avoid needing a kidney belt.

It was funny, my little truck in among all the monster dump trucks and
semi tractors. The techs were fighting over who got to do mine when the
boss laughed and said 'I am doing it'.

Well Rough Country has a 3.5 inch lift for a little over $400. I put one
on my YJ a few years back . Very pleased with it. For cheap you could
try the Add-a-leaf. We did one on my buddy's Jeep and so far it's held
up. Or you could do a Shackel lift and a body lift. How good of shape
are your springs? What size tire do you want to run?

If you only want less than three inches get a "spring over" done. you can do it your self if you can find the right pitman arm and think you can get the drive shaft aligned right.
