Hi all,

so i've got my heart set on a Freelander 2.

I'd like an auto - and ideally an HSE spec.

2007 Black Land Rover Freelander 2 2.2 TD4 HSE SUV 5dr Diesel Auto 4WD Euro 4 (160 ps) for sale for £2,495 in Norwich, Norfolk (autotrader.co.uk)

this one is local to me, however it does have issues.
Now, i'm wondering if it's worth fixing those issues or if i'm better off looking elsehwere.

I called the dealer this morning and it's now only running on 2WD as the diff has been removed. So that needs fixing

The drivers window doesn't work and it needs a fuel filter for it's MOT (which they'd do and put a fresh MOT on it)

There are others similar, which are about £1000 more money and miles away, to the point i'd end up having to have it delivered rather than being able to go get it.

I'm looking for something that'll last me 12 months. I need something that'll handle a motorway and back without having a fit and breaking down, and ideally something that can introduce me to the world of greenlaning and weekend mud fun

I'd avoid it, as the previous owner clearly couldn't be bothered or couldn't afford to replace parts that fail.

By the time you've bought a second hand diff, Haldex, and propshaft, you'll be kissing goodbye to £600, this is before you chase any other issues that have been neglected.

yeah point taken on there.

My main issue is there's nothing else around I can go take a look at, so I'd be buying and having it delivered unseen.

I'd be expecting to chuck another £1000 at it to bring it somewhat back to life, but you're right, that £1,000 could easily become 2.

Way overpriced with a description that includes this. A probable money pit.

“DOES NEED A FEW JOBS AS EXPECTED FOR MILEAGE - DIFF IS A BIT NOISY - DRIVERS WINDOW DOESNT WORK BUT PRICED ACCORDINGLY - P/X TO CLEAR, * PLEASE NOTE THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT MEET OUR STRICT RETAIL CRITERIA ON EITHER AGE, MILEAGE OR CONDITION AND IS BEING OFFERED UNDER OUR MOTORCLEAR BRAND FOR CLEARANCE VEHICLES. “

Similar age and fewer miles than my own . . . On which everything works.

Useful info, I believe distant ones delivered by the seller come under distance selling regs, so getting them to take it back should be no issue.

Tbh 2 wheel drive means they cut corners, and you have to ask yourself what else they cut corners on?

Did you check the mot history?
It is fail after fail, plus its got 197k on the clock.
Mot man even had to top the oil on it once!

very true. Did seem odd to just bin off the Diff rather than keep it for refurb

Was just looking at that now. Points taken. On to the next one

He has taken that as a trade in, and is trying to get rid.

yeah they have two sides of the business - one for nice stuff, one for not so nice stuff. This falls into the latter category. No bother though, I hoped the bits that needed doing were worthwhile upgrades anyway but not the case. Can of worms.

I'll keep looking.

If you can wait then I would, as times are going to get tighter as the year rolls on and I can see prices dropping, maybe not at the dealers but private ones will.

Plenty of Freelander 1s in better running condition and cheaper. As you say for 12 month's. I agree with the rest for a new version. I would at least expect only issues are bulbs oil bit low battery replacement worn tyres and later issue of hairdresser weekly:D
