Hi everyone,

Im new to the site so i'll start by introducing myself. My names Sam and i live in High Wycombe Buckinghamshire.
After being taken off road in my friends disco last weekend i really want to buy a land rover. I love the shape and character of the series but am unsure which one would be best...

I have around £1000 pounds to spend but am willing to put in some work if necessary to get it up to scratch. Its looks as if i can get a series 2 or 3 in my price range but to be honest i don't know alot about them to choose. Also would you recommend petrol or diesel?

I'd appreciate any help or advice

You'd probably be better getting a series 3 as you'd be able to get summat that was roadworthy and ready to go for that, whereas a s2 allthough more desireable for that price would need plenty of work, unless your lucky and find someone skint.
Elwoods offer dunt sound that bad if its a sound motor.

I was in the same boat as you - I'm also called Sam :D and went out off roading in my mate's 110 and was instantly hooked. Even after I got covered head to toe in **** trying to get it out of a green lane. I ended up with a series 3 high-capacity pick up as a project.

I'd recommend a diesel, that way when you get bored of the 2.25 it'll be slightly easier to chuck a 200tdi in ;) Thats how mine ended up anyway, started out with the intention of keeping it 'original' but decided a newer engine would be better.

Joking aside, I hear the petrols are fairly good. Having never touched or seen one I can't comment, but the diesels are supposedly bomb proof and can be rebuilt for peanuts.

If you like spanners buy a series landy. If freezing your arse off out in the dark fixing stuff doesn't appeal get something else.
