Which Exhaust

Paddocks don't seem to sure as to which will fit from these Land Rover Series 2, 2A and Series 3 - 109 inch Mild Steel Full Exhaust Systems - Paddock Spares If they don't know I aint got a clue :rolleyes:
It tells you. You have a 3 stud manifold, you know what fuel tank you have, and you must know if your vehicle is pre 1974 or not.

Incidentally, I had a look at the Series this morning, and there are brackets, or at least the top part of exhaust hangers, welded on to the galv chassis. The brackets held on with rivnuts were on Nineties.
The top part of the hangers is like a little stub of metal with two bolt holes, sticking out of the chassis rails. if you can locate those on your chassis, that will give you another clue as to which exhaust to get.

Those are the hangers.

Not sure why the involvement of Craddock? If you buy things from separate suppliers, you are going to pay more in postage.
I always get everything from Paddock, a few hard to get things I will order from Craddock if Paddock don't have them.
For specialist engine parts, I use Turners.

Was just checking prices, Paddocks always seem to come up trumps, will use them.
Anyone got any pics of theres fitted ?
Should there be another hanger for back box ?
With a bit of luck there might be instructions in fitting kit :confused:

The rubber square bolts to the hanger on your chassis (two bolts). To strengthen the connection you place one of the rectangular washers on the bare rubber side so the rubber is sandwiched between steel. Then the twisted bracket gets bolted to the bottom two holes in the rubber square with another square (double hole) washer.
The U bracket then bolts to the twisted bracket forming han ole that the exhaust passes through.

On an 88, there are no hangers on the box, just on the pipe.
It is about 20 years since I had a 109, but I am pretty sure the same applies.
For the same reason, I don't have a 109 to photograph.
And in any case, my camera is about 120 miles away from where the 88 is.
 
I've got Bearmach mild steel systems on both the 88 and 109. They have some form of zinc-like coating as seen on many other mild steel systems. The quality looks pretty good and the price was reasonable.

The 109 exhaust is 2-1/2 years old and around 1800 miles, no visible deterioration except for dulling of the coating on it. The 88 hasn't done many miles yet but it went on easily enough, and fits well.

I put the new Bearmach system on the 88 because the Britpart system fitted by the PO lasted 18 months and 2000-odd miles before the boxes completely rotted through, even the pipe was visibly delaminating. Tapping it with a spanner made chunks fall off, it looked as though it had been retrieved from the Titanic. I've never seen anything like it - absolute rubbish.

I'd recommend Bearmach on the strength of my experience.
 
Got my exhaust today, just had time for a quick look and it looks like it will Lay along chassis nicely, exept for this bit that wont fit through the bloody hole. Maybe the extra layer of Galve stopping it, not sure weather to grind bit off pipe or not to get it through. No instructions in fitting kit so will have to google pics if I can find any then work it out as I go along.
