Iso fix is overrated. And is not necessary. Even isofox car seats have the option of securing with a three point belt. The reason for wanting a station wagon is for the three point belt position.

Times were different then, regarding child seats, but my kids went in the back, sideways facing, with lap belts & booster seats as soon as they were big enough.
I completely agree and that is how I grewnup And have no issue with it. The problem Is the when big enough bit. That is a good few years down the line considering they are not even born yet. So need something in The mean time.

@dag019 , did you find a 110 Tdi yet? Here, just browsing C&C and note the Tdi's are still commanding strong prices. Although market has dropped 200 Tdi's appear to be the engine that folk still want, I'm guessing due to their robustness and simplicity.

No not yet. Even project vehicles seem to be commanding high prices. And lots of “project” vehicles seem to be “only need a bit of welding for a mot” which when you look at in reality needs a chassis. But because they are being sold as need a little work rather than the lot they need in reality they expensive.

I had found the perfect one on auction on eBay. But it ended early and sold for less than I thought it was worth and was willing to pay. So was a little irritated by that.

Yeah with the amount of idiots on the roads these days driving fast cars with ZERO driving ability, I wouldn't even dare put my dog in the back unless I have a role cage. Safety has come a long way, ISOFIX seats etc.

I purposely removed my rear seats, they aren't safe and if anyone ever asked me to jump in the back I refused. Just have a look at defenders rolled on google images, you'll understand what I'm saying.
I understand. We all used to pile in the back of series land rovers without seats of any kind, with the back door open, chucking out hay and shooting through muddy gateways. Part of the problem on the roads is that even the smallest car goes like stink these days. My 850 Mini needed the passenger to get out when we reached Shooter’s Hill SE London. People are far more impatient now as well AND there’s a lot more of them on the road. I agree, I wouldn’t allow a youngster to travel in the back now, but I’m happy we had so many good times.

Good luck finding your interim vehicle. Our newest car is 2011 Cat C write off. I haven’t got a clue about modern cars. The only one I’ve ever loved besides my 90 & Defender was a Ford Capri. I’d love to have it back. I’m old and out of date.
Am I bovered? No.

I can identify with this, if we ignore the wife's x1 (2016) which is very definitely her car, out of the four vehicles I own the newest the the '89 110! There seems to be a vehicle that fits what I am looking for come up about every 2 weeks or so but gauging prices is difficult as there seems to be wildly differing ask for basically the same vehicle. I think I have resigned myself to a project vehicle and taking a couple of years to get it on the road and then a "rolling restoration" after that. As said I will not actually need a station wagon until either we have a second child or the first is old enough to have friends.

Unless you are desperate for a Defender, have you considered a Discovery 1 or 2? They are fundamentally the same vehicle underneath, and are objectively better in a lot of ways. I have a 3-door Disco 1 and it's quite compatible with small people. Particularly for a rear-facing child seat, we found the best means of exit for the small one is via the rear door- over the back seat onto your shoulder!

And then there's the quieter ride, room for your right elbow, better interior, less of a tendency to leak water in...

Much better value for money, as well.

I know all of the arguments for a discovery but i want a defender. It is what I have had since i was 18, what I am used to and what i like. I am aware it is an emotional descision rather than practical, if it was practical I would not be looking at a land rover at all!
