I been reading a lot about Defender models getting stolen, and I was wondering if Series owners have had similar issue of being targeted as well?

Yes, I've noticed people displaying an unhealthy interest when it's parked up outside here. I'm on a rural main road and the ones I've noticed park up in the village hall car park, presumably to check out the possibilities. Normally it's locked away elsewhere and so, since it's usually got a Disclock on I'm not too bothered. I do have photographs of the ones I've spotted - which is mainly because they have something in common. Tatty Defenders. Depressing.

Series landies are usually nicked either by joyriders who dont get far before crashing it or giving up, or for parts as the price of secondhand series part prices have gone up a lot. The nicer looking it is, the more attractive it is to criminals. However, I dont think series are more at risk of being stolen than any other car.

I have seen at least three series landies stolen in south east London in the last month, including a series 1. They are also being targeted. I must admit that my old 90 gets quite a bit of attention when I park it somewhere public, which isn’t often now for that very reason.

Do you know if these were professional theft or of the joyrider variety?
No, the posts on Landywatch just said they’d been stolen. In the absence of a witness, CCTV or the vehicle getting recovered, it would only be a guess as to what type of thief. However, as there have been no reports of these being found or recovered, I’d suggest the former.

Sadly we have seen a number of peeps post in this section their series tratter has been stolen. So they are at risk. Not much security on them means they're easily taken.
