Hi, I am a new member of your community and a very happy owner of a 2009 Freelander2 LF 09 MY TD4 which I have owned for 24 months and have now 48,000 klm's on the clock.

I have had no fault issues with this vehicle and am very happy generally with this car.

My 3 yr warranty expires at the end of the month and at the suggestion of my LR service centre have booked my vehicle in for a pre warranty expiry check.

Is there any common issues I should ask the LR service department to check / check myself prior to this service?

I live in Melbourne Australia, and appreciate that this is mainly a UK site. However, given the higher number of Freelander2's on your roads your knowledge of issues associated with this vehicle must be greater.

Your input is appreciated.

Whine from rear differential , audible at motorway speeds.

Whine from steering. Able to replicate it by rotating the steering wheel from lock to lock with the engine running, whilst blipping the throttle.

Leak from bellhousing. Looks like a rear main leak , but its usually the golf club seals located around it.

Erratic fuel gauge. Normally faults on startup. Although im sure you would have noticed it if you had an issue.

Hi there,

I too live in Australia in far north Queensland and I own a 2011 TD4 which has just on 60,000 kms on the odometer now, My car is currently tearing the rear tyres to pieces without a satisfactory explanation. Land Rover in Townsville are at a loss to help me, it has already had one of the differential bearings replaced (this is known warranty issue), but it is doubtful that this has anything to do with my tyre issue. I am leaning towards the Haldex differential as the culprit at this stage.

I too have had the fuel gauge issue (again it is a known warranty issue). I am also obviously a masochist as I owned a Freelander 1 for 13 years prior to buying my new FL2! A site that I have found very helpful is a site called TOPIx, just Google it, you have to pay a subscription, but it seems worth it as the site contains all of the information that you seek. Cheers.

Hoggy.

Jaguar Land Rover TOPIx is a technical resources website owned and maintained by Jaguar Land Rover committed to providing the most reliable technical information available.

Yeah Topix is the successor to GTR, which was the successor to RAVE.

Its whats used in dealer.

Rear tyres tearing is an odd issue.

I assume you have in manufacturer specified tyres and the same tyres on all 4 corners, with similar wear across axle?

If people though that the viscous coupling on FL1 were picky about tyres, wait until they upgrade to a Haldex on FL2 :)

They hate any kind of mismatch and can cause stepping.

Although ive never seen any rip up tyres tbh.

Whats the problem? Traction control too sensitive?

Can you print or pdf pages from the Topix site?

Thanks Hoggy,I suspect that you are quite a rare breed ( freelander2 owner in FNQ).
For this reason I would of thought you would get good service attention in Townsville. I will also chase up your lead.

As a matter of interest by a person who has travelled a bit in western Qld and the Gulf area do you carry an extra tyre on your travels?

I was just thinking that if I get a Freelander 2 then it would take months to read about it, if it's got anything like the content of rave for the Freelander 1. Having a copy for personal use to read as I go would be helpful. PrimoPDF will create free pdf's. You install and select it when printing, from your printers list, and it creates a pdf doc for you.

I owned a 2008 FL2 from 2008 to 2010 and had the following issues:

Rear crank seal replaced under warranty - look for oil leaks on your drive which appear to be coming from the back of the engine.
Seizing folding mirrors.
Various software updates.
Pre heater isolated and then eventually changed once replacements in stock - this was actually an emergency recall due to fire hazard.

When I sold it, it needed a whine coming from the rear axle diagnosing/repairing and the front seat belts replacing due to a design fault with them chafing on the interior trim as they were reeled in/out.

Apart from that, it was a pleasure to drive, amazing off road and generally a nice vehicle to be in. :)
