I am told that in a Grand Wag transmission, the driving beltscan be
tightened. is this hogwash?

A belt drive transmission in a Jeep??? LOL! Ya right....

They did cheap out and go chain drive on the newer transfer cases
though. No way to tighten them... Same for the old quadratrac full
time 4x4, it has a chain too.

You can with good conscience slap that person up side the head and
charge them with fraud if a shop.

Basically all Tcases are chain drive today a least on the front axle
and a few for both axles.

No, not the transfer case - the auto gearbox. He said that the pan could
be dropped and the bands tightened.

This is an 86 Grand Wag with quadratrac.

The tranny it question does indeed have a clutch band adjust in it.

I won't argue that, but a 'band' is a strap of metal or a band of metal
around a drum that acts like a clutch.

No 'belts' involved.

Well, first you said belts, then bands. They are different things,
very different things.

Why do you want to tighten the bands? Is it slipping? If so, it is
probably too late, and a rebuild by a *reputable* shop is probably the
only fix.
