Hi how long should the VCU bearings last. i had them replaced 10,000 miles ago and now faced with replacing them. The replacements i am toled where GKN. anyone got any ideas?

Well all I can tell you is, i've done 30k in mine since i've bought it and that's the only part of the car i haven't replaced. :)
it was on 76k when i got it.

I've done 70,000 on mine .I bought it with 120k on the clock and I doubt the VCU bearings were ever changed . The rubber does look a bit past it .

Edit : that's miles not km .

So, in conclusion, your 10k looks a bit on the premature side.

SingVogel knows the best ones to get ( I can't remember ) he'll be along shortly :)

Oh !
:welcome2: . Your first ever post .

Some people on here get a bit miffed , when someone comes on here with a question , without first introducing themselves ,in the introduce yourself section or here on the G-Lander section .

Hi Wulf and Freelaner thanks for you reply, Wulf i never thought any one would be interested enough in me to get upset by a lack of information. I am semi retired civil servant living in Devon, Married ( just got back from celebrating our 50th anniversary )
and that's when the rumble started hence the question.

That's better .

So you drive a 1.8,v6,xedi or a td4 ?

Not that it really matters for this thread .

Hi Wulf
Td4 ES year 2002 and i love it. live rather remote and if we get snow nothing much moves that is not either a tractor or 4x4.

Hi Briab, and :welcome:

AFAIK GKN produce a range of mounts - not all the same quality though.

They assemble the mounts rather than actually make all the parts themselves.

The best quality ones have the FAG bearing fitted in the hard red rubber centres.

These are available from Foundry4X4 at around £22.50 apair inc VAT

That's less than half the cost of only one from a LR dealer. :D:D

Only difference is they come in a box marked GKN and not marker LandRover.

Here's the link:
Parts & Accessories for Landrover & all 4x4: Freelander, Drive Line (General)

Nice people and ultra fast delivery.

One possible reason for yours having such a short life might be that they were not aligned properly at 90 degrees to the centre line of the car. :(

Also fitters often miss out the slinger discs (or fit them the wrong way round) that are designed to keep the worst of the mud and crud away from the bearing. Front one catches most road spray. :(

Hope that helps.

Singvogel.

Hi Singvogal
Many thanks i will contact them first thing tomorrow and will also share your input with the guy who looks after the car.
Best regards Briab
