Hi

Does anyone have a blow up picture of the swivel ball and housing on the front axle of a Range Rover 88-89 ? I have a leaking gasket (or I hope it's a gasket) and I need a picture to show me the gaskets.

I think any Landrover will have a similar design

If you can help out please send to [email protected]

thanks

Totally Stripped it out .

1* Remove the Disc, caliper, Hub & Stub axle)make a note of any large nut how many turns you undo)
2**You may need to remove the drive shaft (Make a note of the orinetation of the splines)
3 undo the Track rod end, (You may need to undo the drop arm from the steering if it's not the steering side you don't need to)
4*** Drain the swivel down (I used two welded half inch sockets) undo all the bolts round the Swivel ball remove the cover, there you will find some gaskets, it's probably the gasket has gone replace it. You will find a pin in the top tap this out, the will be a taper bearing in the bottom (only if you totally remove the swivel 1)
5 Clean everything in Parafin or Meths (I use Meths)
6 Grease the bearing with Packing grease (NOT Copper, WD40 or Spray GOOD old fashion packing grease DEFINATELY NOT MOLY GREASE)
7**** Refit is reversal with the following Torques Refil Swivel joints

Swivel Pin Retaining Bolts 60
Front Swivel Housing oil Seals retaining plate 10
Stub axle to Swivel housing 44
Brake Caliper to Swivel 60
Track Rod bolt 30
Disc Retaining Bolts 38

This is for non ABS Cars

*Replace Lock tabs
**Replace Seals Inner and Outer
***Replace all Gaskets & Taper bearing and Pin 1

This is a long job going to take you at least 2 hrs.
Make sure it's not you're power steering pump leaking as this will spray fluid to the swivel making it look like it's leaking.

Hope this is some help
