Freelander 1 Tyre sizes

Will 255/65 R16 tyres fit on a Freelander 1 ( 2006 ) without any modification ( lifts, spacers, chunks out of wheel liners etc ).

I know this has been covered many times on this forum, but the information I can find still seems a bit vague.

If someone could confirm/deny it would be much appreciated.

255 is too wide for the factory 16" rim, 225 is the largest practical size before sidewall support suffers. Diameter wise, it should be ok in the arch, but could well rub on the strut spring cup at 255 width, so spacers would be needed.
