Hi All,
Im getting my freelander 2001 a bit of tlc part of which is getting the original wheels refurbished.
As I am doing this I am going to renew the tyres.....
Can any of you nice people recomend a good all-round tyre.
I live in West coats of Scotland, mainly wet but inj winter can get very snowy and icey at times - tyre size 215 / 65 / 16

I have been reading all the info about all the various tyres available and to be honest its a bit mind boggling.
Thanks for any and all advices
Taz

Hi Taz,

Well I'm on the East coast - but I understand the conditions you have over there very well.

Unless you're really seriously going off-road - you don't need an A/T tyre.

I found them to be very noisy and they didn't last as long as some other types.

A purely road car tyre is no good in the Wintertime either.

The Michelin Synchrones which came with the car were biased / designed for 60% road and 40% off-road. I found them to be a bit noisy too - compared to what I have now which is Continental Conti4X4Contact which are 80% road use and 20% off-road. They are available in your size - no problem.

They are great on muddy tracks and in the snow - I certainly haven't stuck for 2 Winters with them. They are much better in the wet than Michelins too.

I'll be buying another set for sure.

Hope that helps you.

Slainte,

Singvogel.

I run on Goodyear Wrangler AT\Rs

In my opinion they are not excesively noisy and have lasted much longer than the Goodyear HPs that were on it previously.

The only issue I have with them in the price, usually £110 - £120 per corner

Replaced (wrote off) my Goodyears with Continental Cross Contact LX.

Been very pleased - havent used off road since I killed my last tyres, wife will kill me. In the recent snow really handled well.

Been pleased with them highly recommended.
