Hi I'm hoping someone might be able to offer some advice please any thoughtful comments gratefully received.

Has anyone had their turbo refurbished? If so, please may I have the details of the company used and the quality of the parts / work.

I'm based in South Yorkshire but willing to travel for the right work / better job.

Thanks J 🙂

Generally a new replacement is best, as these units are computer controlled, so require calibration both in manufacture and after fitting.
However they're very long lived, so seldom need replacing.

Thanks @Nodge68 are we talking (depending on driving style) over 150k miles or so..
With proper oil maintenance, there's no reason why the turbo shouldn't last as long as the engine, which is about 300k miles.
Delayed oil changes do cause issues, as the pre-filter can clog, starving the turbo of oil, resulting in bearing wear.

Thanks again @Nodge68, really appreciate your comments.
Unfortunately before my ownership I cannot comment on servicing. I always service my vehicles ahead of time and with all correct fluids. However, the car has developed a whistle so was considering the worst case scenario. Any thoughts if I should look somewhere else for the culprit? Now I think about it I have noticed that the intercooler has what only can be described as a dent in it, could this be the issue?

Boost hoses are a common failure on these, so that's where I'd start looking.
A faulty turbo doesn't often make a noise, it just fails to boost correctly.

Thanks again @Nodge68 is that the usual cause of a whistle?
Yes a leaking boost hose can definitely make a whistle, as the sound of the compressor wheel escapes the boost system along with the air. Always start with the simple and cheap stuff, before moving towards the more complex and expensive stuff.

Today I heard my TD4 turbo flutter (whistle?) for the first time, could it also be a result of a leaking boost hose? No fault codes, but the engine was hesitant at some point, although it quickly went away.

The throttle assembly was replaced last month and I suspect that there might be a loose connection on one of the boost hoses or even a hole.

EDIT: The mechanic who replaced the throttle assembly mentioned that the turbo variable vanes felt stiff.
