Hi looking for advice and your thoughts I have a whole second hand engine, should I swap whole engine that's perfectly timed into freelander and take out my bottom end , or split used engine and use cylinder head onto my own bottom half which is still in car and rebuild with new hg second hand engine has no hgf .I'd like to inspect second hand but don't want to create more problems whats your thoughts reason for change cylinder head had gone in car but bottom end has had new sealed liners thanks

Honestly, if you have a known good 2nd hand engine, I'd be inclined to replace the complete unit. Changing heads always results in a lot more work than you think and so much more that can go wrong.

But thatis my opinion, and i'm not a full time grease monkey. Only going by the times I changed a head or replaced an engine..

Unfortunately don't know the history of engine only the milage and is it possible that i could change whole engine for head gasket to go in a few months even though it doesn't have hgf at the moment this is my dilemma split engine for new head gasket on block that's already in Car is it more work to do complete swap

In my experience, it's better to build a reliable k series, rather than trust an unknown unit off eBay. Or get one from an MG 6, which is pretty similar, and apparently more reliable.
I'm going to split it that's it decided on that advice at least you can see what sort of life span this engine has had and any traces of overheating and check the liners for any evidence and can change hg cheers nodge68
