Timing belt

Hi When the freelander changed over to the BMW engine is it correct that these are chain driven timing belts and would they still have to be changed as the old timing belt.Regards Martin.

Yes the TD4 has a timing chain not a belt , Don't know any threads on here about changing them as they last so long ?

You are correct in that the BMW engine uses a timing chain - not a belt.

It does not need to be routinely changed as belts do.

It's good for 750,000 miles I would reckon.
