Evening.
Just bought an 05 Freelander commercial (diesel auto) mainly for taking the nippers bikes out / fishing / when the dog rolls in fox poop etc.

I had a new discovery van built in 1998, loved it. Kept it 3 years, which for me is an eternity.

I've done a "man" search on a couple of items in the forums, but got a bit lost.
Apologies for being a newbie.

A) when I pull the gear selector to the right to engage sport mode, the display on the dash does not change - despite a lot of pushing back n forth. There is a red light on the gear selector case where is says sport/m. Any thoughts ? Expensive to fix ?

B) The black roof rails have a worn finish. Just wondered if they are easy to get off and if so what's best way to prep/refinish them.

The one I just bought has 119,000 miles on it, but seems to drive pretty well, but other than a good ear for rattles/squeaks (couldn't hear any), I'm a bit of a divot when it comes to vehicles.

Hi.

A... when you move the selector to the right it should go into sport mode, and show up as sport on the dash. If this doesn't happen try moving the lever to the right and pushing forward/backward to manually change gear using command shift. You should see 1 or 2 appear as you move the lever. If none of these features work then the sensors near the gear stick may have failed. Cable to it bottom right below:

your roof rail can be removed easy just 4 bolts each side if ity is a 5door i think the same amount for the 3 door if you are going to have it of for long put the bolts back in to stop water
