Good morning hippo lovers,

Just wanted to share a few things with yourselves, I spent yesterday morning servicing my new Td4 before I was rudely called into work:mad:

Yesterday I:
Fitted new bmw cyclone breather jobby
Fitted allisport EGR bypass
Cleaned inlet manifold and associated gubbins
Replaced IRD oil with Millers TRX 75w-90 fully synthetic
Replaced diff oil with 80w-90 GL5 by sucking out as much as possible with a syringe.
Topped Gearbox oil
Replaced air filter
Replaced engine oil with mobil 3000 5w-40 Fully Synthetic (only £26 for 5 litres from opie! :D)
Replaced oil filter
Cleaned out hoses, wrapped up intercooler hose where it rubs on bracket...

Sounds so much better now silky smooth (for a doozel), the oil is fully synthetic and B3 and B4 rated, and I went for that oil as it sometimes does short journeys for my wife and it has been on fully syn from new. It took the full 6.8 litres as when it was draining I had the cap off, oil filter out and slightly jacked up on the left to empty as much as possible.

The belly pan was easy to remove as its clear my motor has been looked after, all the fasteners had been copper greased previously.

Did a good inspection of the usual suspects all bushes, diff mounts, vcu bearings, boots etc are perfect it is in outstanding condition. Looks like it has had its brake pipes replaced underneath in the last year, and they have been waxoyled by whoever fitted them the protect them.

Driving is now super smooth, and the most noticeable difference is a bit more willing and pull around 1000rpm+. The EGR wasnt that bad, it was a bit black and sticky so I think it has been cleaned out before at some point.
Oh and the turbo whistles a bit more now when it spools up!

Im soon going away with work for a while, back in may I think, so a bit happier now knowing that it has been serviced properly and the wife can use it without worrying!
Its been tremendous in the snow too.

When I come back I am going to replace the fuel filter, wire brush the rear drums and give them a lick of paint. Oh and get a decent wheel cover!

Well done, I like posts like this, they encourage me.
I'll be doing the bmw cyclone breather jobby and the camshaft position censor tomorrow morning. The rest can wait a month or two until the weather warms up.

Hi , nice one at least you know its been done right ! have you changed the turbo boost control solenoid valve vent filter ? ps like your VC10 K pic

nice one mate. nice to read something positive for a change!! Although you do sometimes wonder why they didnt leave the factory like this in the first place, but then its more getting oily and satisfying doing the work urself!!!

Thanks for the comments, well spotted on my avatar Ian!:tea:

Yes I replaced the turbo vent filter too, forgot about that!
Did 60 miles today out and about with the wife, definetly smoother overall and more willing to pull, especially at low rpm. Bit more confidence at roundabouts now!

Feel a lot better in the knowledge that I have serviced and inspected it properly! Safe in the knowledge the last garage to service it didnt let the tea boy have a go...
