Hi im new to the site, ive got an 04 plate TD4 so its the facelift model, the bracket has snapped that connects the push rod to the clutch pedal so its time for a new master cylinder :( (i have cable tied it together for now so i can still drive it) do all the new master cylinders come pre filled with clutch fluid? as i have been told these are a prefilled system and a ballache to bleed, is it as easy as disconnecting the old one and reconnecting the new one (Job done)?? if so is there anything to watch out for whilst doing it? im a mechanic myself but work for Toyota and this system is new to me unfortunately, any comments would be greatly apprectated thanks :crazy_driver:

You shouldn't have any trouble.....it twists and pulls out of the bulkhead after you've disconnected from the pedal....recommend you bleed it after though, they tend to get air in through the self sealing coupling above the gearbox. Hold the fitting with the bleed nipple in firmly with a spanner when turning the nipple, don't allow it to turn on the pipe as some begin to leak if moved excessively.
Make up some kind of pourer in advance for topping up.

Having just replaced a maste cylinder. Buy a genuine one. The one I took off was a cheap pattern part fitted 18k ago by a garage. Was not impressed when it packed in so soon.

Genuines are £135, you may also need to get it pressure bled to get it back right. I know mine needed it done.

Hi A.J.M, thanks for the post think i will buy a genuine one just to be on the safe side, this may sound like a stupid question but do they come pre filled with fluid? im sure ive heard that somewhere, and any tips on undoing the coupling where the pipes join? i havent had a look at it yet but just thought the info would be useful, thanks
