Hi All,

Apologies that my first post on here is a question. I have searched the forum, but couldnt find anything that matched what going on with my freelander at the minute.

It is currently in the garage, who have just phoned to say they "cant see much wrong with it"

I was driving home last night, when there was a sort of hiss, the engine slowed for a second or two, almost as if it misfired / hit a flat spot & was then very sluggish.

I can get up to 60mph, but it takes an age. I seem to need to really get the revs up to do it.

Also, whenever I get to around 2000revs it seems to hit the same flat spot as last night for a second.

Does anyone know what could be going on?

Im not sure to be honest, ive only had it a couple of months. Latest from the garage is "it does sound noisy to be fair, but sort of engine noisy" . Beggars belief.

check all intercooler pipes for chafing cut's split's etc....... If you heard a hiss, then a lack of power my first instinct would be to check all turbo related vacuum pipes for splits/perished blown off.......
Good way of checking your turbo is boosting is get a mate to give it a good rev and feel if your turbo pipes are swelling up, If not then thats a good indication you either have a split boost pipe or sticky waste gate. Believe me It's a mind field but the above mentioned are good to be starting with without splashing any cash.

Looks like the guys have identified to probable causes

Hissing sounds re probably boost leaks
Causes low power and black smoke due to wrong air / fuel mix

Hi I have only just joined the forum as I was searching for answers to my problem which it sounds like it might be the same thing. Hissing starts when turbo should be kicking in but stops as soon as I ease off accelerator, I also noticed a lot of black smoke behind. At the moment I am driving like a granny staying off the turbo until I can get it fixed.

Classic symptoms of split/burst turbo pipes.

This can happen at any time after it's around 6/7 years old irrespective of mileage.

Have a search.
