Hi

I bought a second hand TD4 4 Kalahari weeks ago. It had had turbo changed when I purchased it.

Chap i bought it off Sorted problem out with gear change where I had no clutch.

Two weeks ago whilst towing I had a problem where the engine clanked then a puff of smoke out the back. Engine light came on after a bit and was told it was carbon cleaning?

Then engine light came on when not towing when I out foot on accelerator and had loss of power. This carried on for a coup,e of days, nothing showed up on error codes at first on computer then decided it was maf sensor.

Went fine for half a day. Towed again (horse trailer one small pony and modern trailer so well within capabilities) and engine light came on again on return journey and engine cut out. Managed to get going again for about 2 miles when it cutout all together after turning into a junction.

So far Conatminated fuel has been blamed (all other cars and LRs running fine on same fuel), in tank pump (hadn't gone), yellow stuff in in tank pump sump and finally mechanic is at a loss.

Any ideas?

Do you know if the turbo let go, blowing the oil seals, as if so the oil could have contaminated/blocked the cat, under load it will then over boost, causing limp mode cutting out. We had one that did the same took the cat off knocked the inners out and refit, fault solved

Many thanks for replies and Hi to the forum :)

Not sure if it must blew. Will ask the question :)

Ok so the diagnostics showed a broken high pressure fuel pump. The diesel that's was in the tank is contaminated with what looks like carbon (little black bits in bottom of jam jar when fuel taken out) which would indicate a leak back problem? Could this have caused the fuel pump to go and has anyone else had the same problem?

Many thanks in advance
