Hi All.
New to this site, Just bought a freelander from a young couple, They told me the rear tailgate window cable had just snapped, after some haggling knocked the price down and told them I would fix it myself. Got replacement cables from ebay, Fitted them with no problems, or so I thought.
The problem seemed to be be the usual tailgate window would not drop on door opening, no heated rear window and no rear wiper or washer. But now have realised everything is back to front, Have to press up button to get window down and down to go up, plus wipers washer and rear heater all work with window down only.
Have been told two possible reasons for this, 1) plug on switch has been put on wrong way round 2) system needs reprogramming.
Can anyone help with this
Regards
Mr Greenkeeper

Maybe roof switch? I dont know the electrics and all the peculiar antics of freelanders but i know that none of it will work if the roof is off. If your freebie thinks the roof is of then nothing in the rear will work in the rear and as it seems you fitted it incorrectly it will think the back window is down (which it will be with the roof off)

Some one will probably say somthing completely different but i gave it my 2p

Oh and welcome to the forum and enjoy your stay

Oh and it sounds like you prob spun the cable round the wheel the wrong way. but i should think you already know that

What about if you disconnect the battery, do your switcheroo and then reconnect? I think the system self calibrates hence why your window will wind down when you reconnect power. Might be a solution :).

another one straight in with a question!

use the search button, it's been discussed at length before

To be fair to him, at least he has a firm grasp of written English which is more'n can be said for many newbs :D.

But yes would be nice to know a bit about you and your new Landy :). The search is great on this site and will turn up answers to 95% of your questions, but you'll learn that. Still nice to have discussions eh?

Will.

Thanks all for comments, the cables are on correctly wound the right way, as I see it the will only wind one way to fit correctly, I followed the osco video to the letter was quite simple,do not want to keep disconnecting the battery as this can damage CCU a bit like turning PC off without without shutting down. Will connect diagnostic scanner and let the box of tricks sort it out.
By the way its a 1999 Freelander 1.8ltr
