Hi, I am new here, although I have read this forum for many years I have never posted before. I have been helping my son with his Freelander 1 tailgate window. I looked though a number of threads but I could not see the same issue.

We had a failure of the bowden cable so we replaced the whole mechanism. I went fairly smoothly but the issue we have is that when we open the door the window goes down per normal but after releasing the handle (with the door open) the glass goes up too far. and pressing the handle again close the door the glass goes down the normal amount, but it is no longer far enough to close the door. If I use the switch inside the car I can move the window down then close the door. (although the rubber seal is dislodged)

The car is a 3 door, and I note that the new mechanism whilst it fits fine that the moving blocks which hold the glass are smaller than the original, and this probably allows the glass to move a up bit further than the original whe the door is open. The part I ordered is CVH101150 I purchased from JGS 4x4.

My working assumption is, that there are no sensors on the movement of the glass, that the motor drives to the mechanical limit whilst monitoring the motor current to determine the travel limits, the learning process simply lets the computer know that the window is likely closed or that you hit an obstruction.

I tried disconnecting the battery and retraining the window, and everything works normally, until I open the door, when the glass again tries to eject itself.

I think either :
I have some issue with the training or
The differences in the glass holding block mean that the mechanical stop is different than before, perhaps the 3 door is a bit different to the 5 door.

The current work around is to open the window on the console switch before opening the door, but if you forget you will regret it!

Anyone seen this issue before, what am I missing

Not seen it but the problem you have is that the window raises when you release the handle with the door open. It should not do this.
Usually operate door handle from closed and window drops to allow opening. Whilst door is open window stays dropped a bit until door slammed then it pops back up under the seal.
Wonder if the ccu is not seeing door open and thinks it has closed when open ??

Are you getting a door open indication on dash when all doors closed?

There are no limit switches, just a hall effect sensor which reports glass no longer moving.
Window feed is from ccu and door switch should tell ccu door is open and inhibit glass movement.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for your reply, its just what I needed. We had the Freelander before my son, so we had it at least five years or more, the window has always popped up when the handle is released! But I think the mechanical stop provided by of the old window mechanism stopped this being an issue. I suspect you are right it should not pop up. The door closing light indication is normal with the door closed, but I did not check it with the door open. I suspect that the switch is failing to indicate when the door is open. I can't check it just now as my son has gone home now but I will get him to check. When we have a fix I will report back.

Yes, was going to add to check it shows open.
Looks like the change has upset the dimensions and revealed the original fault. No one would notice a door shut when open condition !!

Thanks for your advice. You are correct, my son just checked the door open indicator, the tailgate door does not indicate when its open. How is the door open sensing done? from a quick look in some threads they imply its part of the lock mechanism. In the meantime will do some searching for threads/youtube for this "new" problem.

Bumping this thread as I need a new switch for my tailgate and I don't want to have to buy the whole lock actuator.
Is it possible to buy just the electrical switch that sits in the tailgate?
