hi people

I've got a T reg 300tdi disco with the smaller later type steering wheel with the airbag in it and basically I want to swap it for the older type with the horn in the middle and no airbag.

I've got a wheel to go on and I've had mine off for a look see but it would appear that I'm missing something for the conversion. I imagined that I would remove the wiring harness for the airbag and remove the spiral cassette that goes with it and just put my wheel on, but it looks a bit like there should be another more basic spiral cassette to go on before the older wheel. I'm wondering if anybody has tried or managed to do this before and succeeded or is the column different???

One of the reasons for me wanting to do the swap is because my wheel is more "in your face" like a disco 2 one is, I mean that when you set the seat so that the pedals are right for you, the wheel feels too far out towards you, whereas the earlier discos seem to have them better placed. Does anyone know why this is, is it the wheel or column or is the pedal box where I should be looking???

Any help gratefully received

Is this car to be used on the road and need an MOT test? It will fail instantly if and SRS unit fitted as standard is missing.

Thanks folks

Discool, thanks for the info but the link is throwing up an error at the mo but il look tomorrow. I had a quick compare and measure up with a mates older 300 that's in the better position but I was only using the old "how many fingers" method but it did look as tho the column shroud was the same length as mine (from dash to wheel) but that doesn't mean it was and it still leaves the wheel offset to see about.

Going for an mot doesn't bother me and if I succeed in changing wheels then the airbag won't be a concern anymore, to be honest, I'm more concerned about how far forward my lass has the seat when she drives it which is another reason for me wanting it out. Thanks for your thoughts tho :)

Has anybody any idea about pedal boxes or positions on different age discos by the way???

Thanks again

Towsey
