Hello.

I am bad at introductions so this is it: hello.

Just got back from Wildor in Ince, Wigan so... Report.

Site

Conditions ranged from "damp" to rutted, nigh impassable swamp with a little between and a temperature of "I cant feel my hands" I should have put my gloves on... :rolleyes:.

Great place for my first outing lots of stony mud and tight, very tight in a 110 wooded trails to leave paint in and open spaces with hills to climb. The open areas/high traffic trails got churned up in the afternoon and the ground into a sticky mud luckily there is Jetwash for lights, windows and radiators onsite; did my radiator 3 times today :).

The Defender performed admirably especially considering it is running on all terrain tyres, has just enough power to pull itself out of a wet paper bag and had a newby at the wheel.

Damage

"Casualties" amongst the group I went with included;

loose shock/lost spring on the rear of a Vitara... quite impressed it was just a lost nut and was fixed within 10 minutes.
2 recovery ropes snapped, switched to straps although I don't have any.
2 recovery points torn off stuck vehicles (one by me... oops)
Nearly dead discovery as the snorkel wasn't sealed so the filter was soaked and clogged, luckily that stalled the engine.
one dead Pajero thanks to a charging/electrical fault.
one Frontera exhaust from the cat back, chucked it in my tub... sorted!

Faults/damage developed/made worse with my vehicle;
it smokes like a train at idle
the bonnet wont open, we tried
the front bumper is bent (was like that before but not as bad)
the heater now appears to blow steam instead of "warm" air
the viscous fan free-wheels and causes the temp to climb disturbingly beyond the red zone but that was "fixed" with a big cable tie.
added a couple chassis dents :D
the steering is impossibly heavy and binds to the point where I cant turn left properly not that it stopped me as this was done before dinner and I wasn't gonna waste a day made manoeuvring "interesting" to say the least.

Things to fix

The steering; I thought it was a tie/steering bar as they are bowed but they don't appear to catch or rub so I am hoping it is just bent/stiff damper; not holding out hope for the simple fix though as the pump makes "interesting" noises and the steering box is on its way out.
I have never seen power steering fluid "boil" out of the cap before today.

The bonnet; it helps if it opens.

Recovery gear; get some straps, shackles and proper recovery points asap

Smoking; rebuild or 200tdi conversion... maybe (read: skint)

end.

Hope this disjointed steaming pile of a post is a valid first post.

also, please find stupid below.

a few weeks ago I bought a 110 2.5td van that has been modified (badly by a previous owner) into a hi cap (truck cab, tub back, etc) and I think it has more broken/knackered parts than working.
