Hi guys, I'm a bit of a Land Rover novice so any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to get my dad's series III Lightweight back on the road after about 3 or 4 years without moving.

Long story short, the front left wheel was jamming so I took it off and I've just taken off the brake drum to have a look inside. Basically the lining of one of the shoes had come off and was stuck to the inside of the drum. As far as I can tell the linings are just stuck onto the shoes, so I was just wondering if anyone knows what would be best for putting it back on. (Please tell me I don't need a whole new shoe.)

Also while I'm here, does anyone know what size socket I would need to get the spark plugs out, because I haven't got one deep enough to reach them. It's the original engine by the way.

Thanks in advance, Pete.

Scrap the shoes and replace - you can't bodge brake parts. You may have to replace the drums if they've corroded really unevenly, but they'll probably be OK with a good clean.
A standard spark plug spanner from a socket set should fit, but you might need an extension bar to get it in. Is it the V8 engine 'cos there's a separate section for those that might help.

If the lining has come off the shoes they are no good, buy a new set and make sure you fit both drivers side and passenger side.
Paddock spares is a good place to get them, cheap and delivered to your door.

Ok cheers, sounds like good advice.

The engine's just the original 4 cylinder. I've got a socket set with one that claims to be spark plug size, but it's way too small as far as I can tell.

Mine are 21mm :)

Brake shoes are so cheap it's just not worth trying to bodge it, and it's not worth any compromise in safety!

Ah, it's these new fangled plugs. Older socket sets used to have the bigger plug spanner. 21mm sounds about right.
