series as a daily??

mine drips a bit, needs the oil checked at least every month or so, is noisy and a little bit temperamental, the brakes are decent as I have twin leading shoes on 11" drums

as for speed I got it up to 65mph without an overdrive, but that was on a LONG straight bit with a slight downward incline, 60 is easy enough to reach if you have a nice long straight.

I normally cruise at between 50 and 55 though


I must say, the 2.25 petrol has never let me down, it has always started first time


the handbrake gave me some problems though, someone put both nuts on top of the lever, causing it to not disengage, which in turn made the gearbox feel like it was destroyed.

well a disco would be the perfect option really, it will just cost me an EXTRA 700 quid for the rest of the year in insurance! i pay 1200 on my current car, and if i got a defender they would give me 200 quid back!

which bit are the bits most common for falling off?

Mmm Don't understand that the defender and disco are both group 12?

Loads of money isn't usually involved unless you have an inclination to restore it to original condition, then, you can say goodbye to reasonable expenditure on a daily drivable vehicle, and enter into a passion/obsession! someone kindly improved mine before I bought it, at the beginning of this year (luckily before the series started to command greater prices). A few added extras make it an easier vehicle to drive: power steering, gas conversion, exmoor trim seats, kenlowe fan, overdrive, and parabolic springs. And although it was painted 'astroturf' green, just before a hail storm, even under the bonnet, that seems to have helped preserve the otherwise possible rusty bulkhead... I was basically really lucky, but had spent a couple of months discovering the kind of landy I really wanted. It's worth investigating the options. As for the tax exempt thing, I THINK it is up to 71, but sometimes confusing, if ex-m.o.d, as mine is. Only some series 111 are tax exempt, they have the advantage of... syncromesh on all gears.

As long as it runs and allows me to play about on some lanes I'm happy! I'd imagine the 200tdi conversion is quite a help?
