Knowledgable people.....can you please offer up advice on the best size rims and what type of tyres I should use for my freelander?

Typical use is mostly road use with the occasional need to be a field with the dogs / shooting etc. House is situated at the bottom of an incline which may prove an issue in the winter months....many thanks

If that is the extent of your off-road use you certainly do not need A/T tyres.

I run Continental Conti4X4Contacts in the winter and have never stuck in ice and snow yet, despite living a mile up a hard unpaved track from the nearest tarmac.

Every brand has it's loyal followers and price is possibly a bigger consideration, as most of the big names will perform well.

Grass and muddy tracks are usually no problem either. Freelanders are great on grass.

Rim size will determine how big a brand choice you will find. The bigger the diameter - the less choice.

I'm on 17" - but they came on the car and I'm happy with them.

Singvogel.

Pirelli Scorpion STR M&S 215/65/16 are on mine and perform well in all conditions.

and don't make any road noise

having said that, everyone has differing views on their own favourite tyre....so a straight answer may be a long time coming.

search on here and make up your own mind.

Seconded, my old man has used Scorpions on his 4X4 volvo's for years and no road condition have defeated them in rural mountainous Wales.

Seems from reading the extensive discussion on this subject that the best FL road tyres are Pirelli's or Conti's and some like Michelins too.
