I'm at my witts end!! I had the local garage seal my rear tilt & slide sunroof permanently shut with tiger seal and it has rubberised gorilla tape over that but the water is stll getting in. They won't take it back in and try again unless I pay again.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
 
Silly question maybe

but how do you know it is leaking from the sunroof

Those rear quarter windows are another equal scource of h2o
 
The problem is with the above and nothing else... if you paid for a simple job and it was not done properly you should insist cos at this point seems that you paid in vain :mad:
They have said they would probably have to take the entire sunroof out and that would not be for free. I've already paid £140 for them to "fix it".

That all sounds like a 15 minute quick fix job… That doesn’t work ☹️

I did fix both sunroofs for a mate‘s D1, the rear leaked and then wouldn‘t shut fully due to the broken nylon bits of the track so was completely stripped, and repaired with parts from an eBay donor sunroof, then it was reinstalled it with a brand new glass seal and using 10mm bead of Silkaflex for the frame to roof seal.

The front sunroof was okay other than leaking via the sunroof frame, there appeared to be a gap between the frame and the roof only a few mm in places, so after masking up both sides of the gap around the frame Silkaflex was again use to form a seal and removing the tape left perfect finish without an sealant on either side of the gap.

So if the sunroof frame to roof seal is giving an issue thats the way to seal, doing the masking is what takes the the time, and the D1 sunroofs fully operational plus dry for ever after 😀

Cost £45.00 for the sunroof, the electric motor went back on eBay and was sold to somebody in Spain for £65.00 and other than some small bits that were kept the rest went to the tip.

How long since it was sealed ? I found with mine the drain trays would fill up over time and overflow days later.
BTW, sunroof drains are favourite but just about anywhere can let water in and then run along headliner and exit at a convenient place !
 
Taking your headliner out needs basic tools an takes 2 hoursish, removing a sunroof I did mine in a hour, cleaning,fixing it reinstalling say 4hour per sunroof, cleaning the headliner, 4hours, re covering a headliner 2-3 hours as it needs triming around the edges an holes. Refiting 2 hours. Headliner glue an material £80, ,don't forget to stick the glass seal in with a decent sealer an blow out the drains an tie wrap the drains in place, not a difficult job plenty of videos on YouTube to show how to do it

It's was sealed by the garage back in March.
The headlining is already out of the car. It was destroyed by the previous leaking. So that's my other task to source a good condition D1 headlining complete with plastic trim bits.
 
Here's my rear sunroof. Currently has some white foam sponge packed down the inside left. Where marked is where I see the water coming in from when going around the corner. It's completely sealed up.

As u say it’s completely sealed and is neatly done as well, so unfortunately the water must be leaking in from elsewhere.

I paid about £14 for a full set of roof rail seals, eight in total.
In truth they are basically dense foam pads that you could remove straighten and refit with a good sealer.
Hang on. I'm talking Disco' 2, but guess they gonna be similar. The leaks certainly are !

The foam on the headliner is what's left of the foam back material , you need to watch a few youtube videos on how to remove the foam the recover it with new foam backed material
 
Mine were leaking too, so I ripped them out - got some .8mm mild sheet; cut to oversize with around 30-40 holes and drilled / riveted to the body with non setting sealant.
Going to fibreglass the seems later, sand and paint the whole motor.

Land Rover owners deleting the extra options on their cars as they just cause more problems. If I am to ever get a Discovery again, it will only be for a very very basic, no option model :vb-disagree:
