Disco 2 Rear Brake pad life

Hi, fitted all new brakes on my 53 plate Disco 2 about 20,000 miles ago, pads, discs & also new calipers at the rear. I've kept an eye on the front pads when doing anti roll bar bushes and other stuff where the wheels have been off, the pads are just less than half worn.

Last week I noticed a slight score mark on the drivers rear disc edge, I stripped the brakes down to find the outer pad down to the metal backing plate, the other three rear pads were also nearly worn out. Calipers are still like new, the pistons pushed back by hand, so everything seems fine.

I'd normally expect the rear pads to last about 3-4 times the life of a set of fronts ? I used Pagid pads all round. Are disco's generally heavy on rear pads ?

That's definitely unusual wear. Typically fronts wear out first & when the systems are designed, the pad thickness' are actually designed to wear out at roughly the same time - but assuming more heavily loaded vehicle than most people actually have.
Have you been loaded up at the back a lot or towing heavy loads a lot ?
Have you checked the front brake caliper pistons / pads are all free - if not, the rears will do more "work" than intended

Yes that's what I expected, fronts to wear our much sooner. I do tow a braked trailer some times, but not often. Front brake calipers etc are all OK, also the brakes seem to work fine, no pulling to one side or dragging. TBH it's not a big deal, a new set of Pagid pads for the rear cost £18 from Euro Car parts as they had a sale on, and as everything had been stripped a couple of years ago, took me about half an hour to do both sides, just seemed a little odd compared to what I've ever known on rear brakes, where I usually end up changing rear pads just because they've been on so long.
